SCP-2300-JP

Item #: SCP-2300-JP

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Collateral damage caused by SCP-2300-JP is to be avoided by regularly updating all documents designated as critical procedures. This is intended to prevent damage to the Foundation, as well as to avoid unnecessary confusion in the emergency situations such as disasters, or in situations of international politics. SCP-2300-JP appearing in the general public is to be dealt with after the manifestation of the affected individual's abnormal behavior. In case a document in which SCP-2300-JP is present is discovered by a third party who does not belong to the affected organization, it is to be reverted to its previous state by utilizing the authority of the Foundation.

This page and all documents related to SCP-2300-JP are continuously being updated in the prescribed format to avoid the impact of SCP-2300-JP.

Description: SCP-2300-JP is a symbol of a dog depicted as exposing its tongue. The shape is identical in all instances found to date, including minor line waviness.

SCP-2300-JP appears in documents describing any kind of work procedure or problem-handling instructions, regardless of the medium. In many cases, it occupies a part of blank space. SCP-2300-JP does not cause any change or effect until it is discovered by an individual who performs the procedure in question (hereinafter referred to as the "subject").

When the subject observes SCP-2300-JP, they feel strange about its existence, and nevertheless attempt to implement SCP-2300-JP into the procedures described in the document. This implementation is performed without the permission of the organization to which the subject belongs or other parties concerned. During this process, various symbols such as strike-through lines and arrows appear around SCP-2300-JP to induce revision. Through induction, SCP-2300-JP is inserted in place of a process or method that is considered difficult.

Once the affected procedure progresses and reaches SCP-2300-JP phase, the subject opens their eyes wide and exposes their tongue. Subsequent behaviors can vary for each subject. Typical behaviors include moving around uncontrollably, falling down to the ground, making inarticulate vocalizations, continuously crashing into objects, sleeping, and eating an excessive amount of edible materials. These abnormal behaviors persist for the average amount of time required for the task replaced by SCP-2300-JP. Following this, the subject perceives that the task or problem handling is complete and moves to the next phase of the procedure. The subject in this state only has their perceptions forcibly distorted, and their memories are retained normally.

Even if the subject acts in accordance with SCP-2300-JP, the task or problem they are facing is not actually solved. In addition, when moving to the next phase, the responsible parties including the subject may not be able to continue the procedure successfully due to missing factors that should have been accomplished in the previous phase. However, individuals who have a social relationship with the subject do not question any of their actions or outcomes, and SCP-2300-JP related anomalous events can only be pointed out by a third party who has no direct acquaintance with the subject. Although there have been a number of third parties who have pointed out the anomaly in past cases, the smaller the scale of the social influence, the more the group that encompasses the subject becomes the majority, and the anomaly is treated as if it does not exist.

One distinctive feature of SCP-2300-JP is that it has a high probability of appearing near individuals who are in an apathetic state. Similarly, the subjects tend to be dissatisfied with their low status or inconvenience in society. Many of the subjects initially accept their abnormal behavior as an outlet for such dissatisfaction, and feel euphoric at the freedom to deviate from previous procedures and not be criticized. However, as the subject continues to perform the affected procedure, they begin to associate the continued disregard of their abnormal behavior with their perception that they are marginalized by society. Although the subject eventually leaves the influence of SCP-2300-JP voluntarily, most of the cases result in extreme mental instability based on the concept of the worthlessness of their existence in society.

Addendum.01: History

Currently, the oldest confirmed instance of SCP-2300-JP is believed to be the one discovered on 20██/03/23. The supposedly original SCP-2300-JP instance was found in a pocketbook belonging to Hisao Shinomiya, in the premises of ████████ Station, ████████, Tokyo. The pocketbook contains the following inexplicable aspects.

  • Several pages are marked with symbols similar to SCP-2300-JP. However, the only one whose shape is identical to the other instances and can be identified as SCP-2300-JP is the symbol written near 20██/03/23 on the monthly page.
  • All texts after 20██/03/23, which appear to be action schedules, are struck through.

Shinomiya died before the discovery of SCP-2300-JP. The station's surveillance equipment observed Shinomiya vocalizing and walking around the station on all fours for 17 minutes. During this abnormal behavior, he descended onto the railway tracks and was run over by an arriving train.

A part of Hisao Shinomiya's pocketbook. The only symbol that exactly matches SCP-2300-JP in shape is the lower left.
"03/07: How do I do?", "03/09: He's great and I'm not", "03/21: What should I do?", "03/23: Everything is pointless, everything is a waste"

Since there were no witnesses around at the time of Shinomiya's abnormal behavior, it is impossible to determine exactly whether he was under the influence of SCP-2300-JP. Some researchers have pointed out that the symbol on the pocketbook may not be SCP-2300-JP, in which case, Shinomiya's behavior could be attributed to non-anomalous factors.
