The following is a simple list of the current status of specific policies regarding the use of AI-generated media across the several branches of the SCP Foundation:
This list was last updated on 24/02/2026 at 17:13 (UTC+0).
EN:
- AI-generated content
- The use of generative1 machine learning2 models to generate user facing content3 is banned.
- Users who post AI-generated content to the SCP wiki will receive a revocation of membership on their first offense, and a permanent ban on the second.
- Good faith exception: This policy does not apply to properly-cited images from external sources unless they were created by, for, or at the behest of the user who posted them to the Wiki.
- Furthermore, the usage of tools whose primary use is generative machine learning is also banned for user facing content.
- All exceptions to this policy are on the following white list:
- (This list is currently empty)
- Examples of banned content include but are not limited to
- ChatGPT-generated text
- Midjourney/Stable diffusion
- AI voice generation
- Examples of allowed content
- DeepL translator, Grammarly (proofreading/spellcheck assistance only. No AI-generated content or AI-revised/rewritten material)
- Fractal generation
- Traditional text to speech (if license compatible)
- AI-generated CSS code
- Writing stories about AIs
- The use of generative1 machine learning2 models to generate user facing content3 is banned.
KO:
- Contents generated by translation machines or generative machine learning AI models, as well as any modified or processed derivatives of such content, are banned in the KO wiki, including the sandbox and official forums. This includes original text, translations, images, video, audio, CSS and JavaScript codes.
- Violation of the policy above will lead to a permanent ban and the content being deleted. However, for the first offence, staff will notify the user of the violation and request voluntary withdrawal of the content. Following withdrawal, no disciplinary action is taken.
- The following cases are exceptions to disciplinary action and deletion of content:
- Other branch users using a translation machine to comment on KO articles.
- Using AI-generated material as an example of AI-generated material.
- When the source is properly cited according to the image use policy, and it is presumed that sufficient consideration was taken to avoid AI-generated images. However, the image is still subject to deletion.
- Translating components, themes, etc. from another branch that was coded using AI. However, they remain subject to deletion in KO if the original article is deleted.
- Examples of prohibited actions:
- Inserting texts or images generated or modified using generative AI models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude into articles.
- Inserting machine translations such as Papago/Google Translate or DeepL into translations in their original form and their modified or processed form
- Inserting original articles and prompts to AI models, and using its output to criticise or participate in discussions.
RU:
- Articles generated by AI, or that contain text, generated by AI, will be deleted permanently without warning. The author of such an article may get their account status downgraded to "Reader", which revokes the ability to create or edit any pages and vote for articles in the sandbox. Exceptions to this rule may be done by Site Staff team members on a case-to-case basis after reviewing the content in question.
- Translations made using AI or any other means of machine translation will get deleted. Multiple violations of this rule may result in a ban.
TH: There is no policy.
CN: AI-generated texts will be considered “non-original content” and will be deleted without a countdown since the site only accepts original content and translations. AI-generated images can be used in articles as supplement materials as long as they comply with CC-BY-SA 3.0 and Image Use Policy, but cannot be posted as artworks on art pages as they are not considered original. FR: There is no policy yet but the use of AI-generated media is discouraged due to its unclear status, pending clear legislation on the matter. It can be expected from both the European and French legislators to settle on a rather strict interpretation of moral rights that makes it hard for any AI content generation model to release its content under conditions that are compatible with the CC BY-SA 3.0 license.
IT: There is no policy but the use of AI-generated media is discouraged for the same reasons as FR.
ZH: There is no policy but the use of AI-generated media is discouraged.
« There is no specific policy for AI yet. But that kind of media [AI-generated media] is generally considered incompatible with CC by our staff and thus its usage is practically discouraged, if not forbidden. »
PT: The usage of AI-generated media has been disallowed as per the results of a community vote.
DE: Existent policy completely forbids the usage of AI-generated media in all articles, including in translated articles.
ES: Existent policy completely forbids the usage of AI-generated media in all articles, including in translated articles.
JP: Existent policy completely forbids the usage of AI-generated media in all articles, including in translated articles.
« In Japan, there is no law recognizing "fair use", and there are no laws or precedents regarding the copyright of machine-generated content.
For several years, SCP-JP has banned the direct use of "AI/machine learning generated" media, including machine translation, and responded to individual cases.
In response to the prevalence of AI-generated media last year (as it is already 2023 in Japan), SCP-JP announced a "Provisional ban on the use of media generated by AI services":
http://scp-jp.wikidot.com/forum/t-15377820/aiSCP-JP also added the following sentence to the "Examples of prohibited media" section in the "Image Use Policy" page;
"Media generated using various AI-generated media services"
http://scp-jp.wikidot.com/image-use-policyThis provisional ban may be withdrawn if precedents or judgments are obtained from the Japanese judiciary, Creative Commons, or other public or quasi-public institutions. »
