Halloween Contest 2022

We're very glad to announce the holding of the IT Halloween Contest of 2022! Like every year, our authors will have to write creepy and spooky works — and this year, they can unleash their creativity: the central theme of this contest is eldritch horror, an element of great inspiration for our community, but that's not all! In addition to that, the random tag system featured back in the IT Summer Contest 2020 is back in style!

Contest Ranking:

  1. Weber's Paradigm
  2. The Sound of Time
  3. Cosmic Octopi
  4. One-Way Journey
  5. The Bucket

And now, the old stuff of the contest:
Interested? Then, without further ado, here's the rules:

Rules

  1. The mandatory theme of this contest is eldritch horror, understood as terror evoked by what's unfathomable and unknowable — key to H. P. Lovecraft's literary production.
  2. The participating writers will be given nine random tags by the staff - taken from the "Attributive Tags" used in the SCP Foundation website pages - and they'll have to pick three of them to write their entry.
    1. When the tags are disclosed, you may replace them with another set of nine chosen at random twice at most.
    2. You may replace only one tag with another - always chosen at random - twice at most.
      1. In case of redundant tags (e.g. "statue" and "sculpture"), you may ask for another one without using up a reroll.
    3. You're free to use every tag in your set, as long as the final work uses only three of them.
  3. You may participate with SCP entries, tales and GoI formats, either canon or out of canon.
  4. You may participate either alone or in a group.
  5. Every user may be part of one group only.
  6. You may participate with more than one work (in that case, write “it-halloween-contest-2022<username><entry number>”).
  7. The entries which won't be included among the "Participants" before the end of the contest won't count.
  8. The jury will consist of eleven users who won't participate in the contest, chosen between staff and regular users. They'll be selected after the end of the writing phase and will pick the contest winner taking into account the users' vote as well.
  9. The winning entry will be exhibited in the website homepage, in the IT newspaper and in the IT social media accounts. Its author will also receive the IT achievement “Triumph”.

Example

Dates:

Start: 1st October 2022 at 12:00
End: 1st December 2022 at 20:00
Winner Nomination: 8th December 2022

How to Participate:

Once your work is done, port a new page titled “it-halloween-contest-2022<username>”, where <username> must be replaced with your Wikidot username.

Afterwards, once published, you may rename it by clicking on “Edit” at the bottom of the page, so as to display the desired title in the table. In case you're part of a group, specify the name of the person designated group leader. The rest of the participating users must be listed in a comment to the page.

If you wish to participate with more than one SCP entry or more than one tale, you need to post the page and name it “it-halloween-contest-2022<username><entry number>”.

The entry doesn't have to be fully reviewed or approved to participate in the contest, but a honed work will be better-regarded than one which wasn't fully revised.

After posting the page, add the “it-halloween-contest-2022” — Wikidot permitting.
