The year was 1937. On the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the nineteenth of September, under the direction of Japanese admiral Hasegawa Kiyoshi, Nanjing was indiscriminately bombed and much of the city was destroyed. Some historians consider this to be the true beginning of the Nanjing Massacre.
The Interlingua version of the article orders the stories within the book in a different order. Incidentally, the stories seem to have a certain chronological order to them - the books on communism would likely correspond to either International Workers' Day on 1 May or, with possible anachronism, the official anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China on 1 July. The last three correspond to the Mid-Autumn Festival, which usually occurs in September.
