Nuclear Dream Hub

After so long, we hid from the world, paying for our mistakes in the darkness of oblivion and exiled by our own will. Even then, the reign of Tlaneyanco continued to advance with time and when humanity repeated the evil steps of our ancestors, we came to light for a brief period in order to safeguard the world.

Despite this, we went back to hiding in the shadows for no reason. I understand the latent concern in your hearts about me being your ruler, but my wishes are aimed at fulfilling the most cherished desire of us all: the abolition of the anonymity imposed on our people. Some may think that this will be a process full of doubts, setbacks, uncertainties, and problems.

I can assure all of you, whether you take my word for it or not, that I will achieve my goal of reintegrating us into the world. Under the power of tlanextlitetl and my wisdom, this dream will come true during my mandate.

Teresa Bárbara
Queen of Tlaneyanco
Opening speech of the 2009 term of office

Tlaneyanco

mapaTlaneyanco

Location of the Sierra Madre Oriental

The Kingdom of Tlaneyanco, colloquially known as Tlaneyanco, is an enclave located in the United Mexican States. It is located below — and extradimensionally anchored — to the Sierra Madre Oriental. Its current surface area consists of 1529km2 and is administratively divided into 6 urban and 2 rural demarcations. It has a population of approximately one million inhabitants. Most of the population does not know how to exit the enclave, and one must make a request to the Parliament to be able to leave the place.

The architecture of the rural areas is composed entirely of chinampas. In the urban core, the oldest buildings are pyramidal structures, such as the royal family's residence and the seat of Parliament. Other buildings have a Novohispanic baroque style, although they are in the minority. Renovation projects have been made to present buildings with harmony and break the monotony of square constructions. Although some structures are built conventionally, organic materials are often employed and it has even become common to produce seeds or spores, which are planted and — utilizing thaumaturgical work — a building with predetermined architecture is erected.

The foundation of the kingdom dates back to the 12th century BC during the rule of the tlatoani Ollin Tonatiuh. After an event called "the Flame of Illumination" caused by divine entities originating from the Sun, the inhabitants of Tlaneyanco were given a source of energy known as "tlanextlitetl". The town was originally founded outside the Sierra Madre Oriental somewhere in northern Mexico, but due to internal conflicts and a resolution of the Tonatiuh Accords, the town moved to its current position, separating itself from the rest of the world during the 10th century BC.

Before their departure and separation from the world, a group of Mekhanites managed to arrive and settle in Tlaneyanco during the early days of Kokolimina's rule. This group had fled after the fragmentation of the Mekhanite Empire and decided to go there after hearing legends of "a people capable of tearing apart the most grotesque flesh" on the American continent. They were welcomed by the Tlaneyancans and settled there permanently.

One of the most important historical events occurred during the rule of Kokolimina in the 10th century BC. Due to the war the leader provoked, the form of government changed: now the tlatoani was no longer the supreme authority and a parliamentary monarchy was established; with the introduction of the Spanish population during the 15th and 16th centuries, the term tlatoani was displaced by king/queen. Even so, this position continued to be hereditary regardless of the gender of the descendants.

Because of its total isolation from the non-anomalous and anomalous worlds alike, its internal history is largely unknown until the mid-20th century and the 21st century with the reign of Ana Bárbara and her daughter, Teresa Bárbara. Following the nuclear detonations of fission devices, both Queen Ana and the rest of Parliament decided to directly intervene in international affairs for the first time in their history, sabotaging the development of these devices. This was due to the close relationship between nuclear energy and tlanextlitetl, as well as these tests being considered a grave offense to both the kingdom and its deities. In doing so, they would break one of the Tonatiuh Accords that forbade them from interacting with humanity in any way.

In more recent times (since 2007), Queen Teresa has held an avant-garde reign while trying to open Tlaneyanco's relations with the anomalous world through a company under the name of "Radiosol". It is unknown if her ultimate goal is the disappearance of the Veil, as her actions seem to be more drastic as time goes by; causing clashes with the Foundation and the Global Occult Coalition.

Geography, hydrography, and climate

Cascada_Tuliman.jpg

Atoyac Waterfall

The city has a small artificial sun that functions in a completely analogous fashion to the normal sun. This device is encapsulated in a crystal capable of controlling its luminous intensity and opaquing it to simulate the night. Since this process is controlled, it is a territory of temperate lands with very little rainfall, with an average annual temperature of between 15 °C and 20 °C, with snowfall occurring during the last weeks of the year in the north of the city.

Due to their subterranean position, they do not have natural hydrography and require the extraction of water from subterranean rivers through anomalous and technological means, such as portals that connect both dimensions. Despite consuming large quantities of water, they seem to possess methods of purifying it and maintaining the water cycle in order; making the use of this resource imperceptible. There is a lake that surrounds the entire periphery of the city. A river called the Atoyac of Tlaneyanco crosses and divides the city. This body of water holds great religious importance and is only used for transportation.

In the rural area, ecosystems such as small deserts or pine forests can be found; their conservation has been maintained due to the expansion of the city. This expansion uses materials from the Earth's mantle and is carried out in tandem with the rate of population growth. Parks and green areas abound in each demarcation of the urban area.

Demographics and culture

In Tlaneyanco, the majority of the population is human, though some altered flora, fauna, and fungi species also inhabit the kingdom. They do not identify themselves as Mexican, Spanish, or any other nationality, and are mostly Mestizo population. There is also a Mekhanite group that represents 5% of the population. The life expectancy of Tlaneyancans is around 200 years, though rulers have been shown to live up to 300 years. The two official languages spoken are Spanish and Nahuatl.

The people of Tlaneyanco hold strong religious beliefs towards their four gods, which are represented and described as the Tonatiuh dragons: Tonatiuhpipiyoli, Tonatiuhcoatl, Tonatiuhtcipactli, and Mixtonatiuhteotl. It is frowned upon to worship more than one of these deities at a time, so most people only believe in and pray to a single one, although they recognize and respect the others. Some Mekhanites have adopted these deities into their religion and represent them as another component of Mekhane.

The ruler's decision on who to mainly believe in is of great importance and influence on society since it reflects changes in the way of governing. Likewise, during their mandate, a festivity related to that deity takes place in the form of great feasts and rituals. In the center of Chilpayatla, Tletlan, Huehuema, and Tlapoyatenco are the main temples, designed with pyramidal architecture, and dedicated to each dragon. Although it is not mandatory to believe in these beings under any law, there is no population of atheists or agnostics.

Over time, syncretism has occurred with elements of the Catholic religion — such as baptisms — and sanctuaries have been built in different parts of Tlaneyanco. The general population knows of the existence of other religions, including anomalous ones. They are not against them but they are not professed either.

Education

In the urban area, the Tlaneyanco Education System (TES) is managed by the government and focuses on discovering the capabilities of each person from an early age to decide their role in society based on this. Meanwhile, in the rural area, there is no educational system and the family is in charge of education or. In some cases, however, community schools are created to prepare young people that want to be part of the urban area.

At the higher education level, the TES teaches both anomalous and non-anomalous careers depending on the students' abilities. On average, students finish their mandatory university studies at age 23, however, they can choose to continue studying until they are 30 years old. The most demanded career is related to the extensive study of tlanextlitetl, with persons in that field aspiring to find new ways to take advantage of it. Only 5% of the population manages to study this career and — of that 5% — 1% manages to graduate.

There are special cases where Mekhanite education centers have been founded, focused on mechanical improvements of the body and machine building or — more recently — programming. In recent years these centers have increased both in number and demand.

Government and laws

The highest position of power is that of king or queen, and is only delimited by the decisions of the Parliament; with this, a parliamentary-monarchic form of government is established. There are police forces and jails, and the death penalty is strictly prohibited; violent crimes are not common in Tlaneyanco, as robberies or vandalism are more frequent.

The kingdom possesses a trained, sophisticated, and highly developed army, with arms production and research since the beginning of their history. This army has access to all kinds of common and anomalous weaponry. The reason for these is unknown since they have not participated in any recent war and — even in the reign of Teresa — no troops have been sent abroad. 25% of the population is part of the Ministry of Defense of Tlaneyanco.

Industry and economy

chinampa

Chinampa in the rural area

Due to the large lake surrounding Tlaneyanco, rural areas are dedicated to working with chinampas1. In more recent years, cattle ranching has decreased and the breeding and cultivation of insects and fungi with anomalous properties have been preferred. Some chinampas have been transformed into gardens dedicated to the Tonatiuh dragons and are cared for by people interested in botany.

In the urban area, 2 exclusive demarcations are occupied by factories and production centers that meet the needs of the city. Due to rapid industrialization, the unemployment rate has increased, but new jobs related to the quaternary sector, such as the modification of living organisms to produce exotic species, were created. A major source of employment has been Radiosol, which has highly benefited from Teresa's decisions to expand outside of Tlaneyanco.

Tlaneyanco's currency is the coztic2, which is 10% gold, 30% copper, and 60% unknown materials. Its equivalence with other currencies is still pending. The economy in Teresa's government is on the rise due to the quality of the products offered by Radiosol.

Demarcations

Tlahuiltzingo

Extension: 76km2

The portion of land where the royalty of Tlaneyanco, family members, and people who occupy high political and administrative ranks live. It has several areas of grasslands and parks with the most exotic flora and fauna of Tlaneyanco and is also the center of celebrations and important events, such as the finals of the totonquitlachtli3. It was the first demarcation to be formed along with Tlaponeyanco. Over time, its size has been reduced due to the increase in population and the few people who inhabit it.

Native characters:

Historical

  • Kokolimina: The last ruler of Tlaneyanco on the surface, he led his people to an internal war after trying to "overcome the power of the sun". The versions of his story differ drastically between demarcations, going from being a legendary hero to the main villain of his history; recognized as the most fearsome and powerful ruler of the Tlaneyancans.
  • Ana Bárbara: Former queen of Tlaneyanco and mother of two daughters, Teresa Bárbara and Itzel Bárbara. Despite being an acclaimed figure by the majority of the population, she was an overprotective and overconfident mother to Teresa, always trying to remove her from her problems instead of confronting them. She partially opened the doors of Tlaneyanco to the outside world after deciding that they could no longer remain anonymous following the nuclear tests of the Cold War. She was a dedicated person with a penchant for morality over duty.

Current

Mural of Teresa

  • Teresa Bárbara: The current queen of Tlaneyanco, currently living in the area. Her personality is conceited and mocking to most people, although she can become very threatening; she was born with the ability to control the tlanextlitetl and is therefore seen as the reincarnation of Kokolimina. However, she feels a great concern and burden for her position, and is trying to keep the population calm due to her drastic actions; despite her unconscionable actions, she does not become outright evil.
  • Itzel Bárbara: Teresa's younger sister. She currently lives outside of Tlaneyanco in search of her dream: to be part of a band and play in different nexuses around the world such as Hy-Brasil, Backdoor SoHo, and Three Portlands. She is usually enthusiastic and full of energy. She studied dance and learned to play the atecocolli4, adding elements such as tlanextlitetl to achieve a greater visual and musical impact. She is also an anomalous composer.

Tonatiuman

Extension: 123km2

Home to the wealthiest class and associated with Radiosol, it is mostly a highly industrialized area with few green areas, harboring instead more modern constructions. It is a place where technological progress meets traditions and customs. Here you can find the majority of the Mekhanite population, who have their own customs and offer opportunities to teach their knowledge to the population.

Rosa during her school years

  • Rosa Cano Hernández: The youngest daughter of a family in charge of designing individual transportation such as motorcycles and automobiles. Her passion was to understand the secrets of the tlanextlitetl and dedicated her life to studying it. With the help of private classes, she managed to participate in several projects until her actions led her to join a forgotten division of the government. She tends to be intelligent, dedicated, and shy with people, usually keeping her feelings to herself instead of expressing them, until she can't continue on that path any longer and has fits of anger. She is currently on a team in the outside world along with Raquel and Selena to keep an eye on various anomalous interest groups, mainly Radiosol's activities.

Chilpayatla

Extension: 214km2

Demarcation where most believers of Tonatiuhpipiyoli5. Its main buildings and institutions are focused on education and philosophical knowledge. The largest number of families is found here, and it has a low number of modern buildings, with the majority of edifices being more natural and small. In this demarcation, the main event is celebrated in the temple of Tonatiuhpipiyoli, where the new generations from different demarcations are welcomed in a festival, full of music and the promotion of various artistic forms. In this location, a building belonging to the Wanderer's Library can be found, which is open to all the inhabitants of Tlaneyanco as long as they comply with its rules.

Tletlan

Extension: 215km2

The main location for believers in Tonatiuhcoatl6. Recognizable by complex and extravagant constructions, and focused on the search for knowledge applicable in daily life; most people here are single, and have a strong focus on their research, although team collaborations are not uncommon. Few celebrations are held here, the most outstanding being an exhibition of major projects, the most notable of which have a second exhibition sponsored at Tonatiuman.

Huehuema

Extension: 183km2

Extension of land inhabited by the believers of Tonatiuhtcipactli7, with most of the population being adults and old people. Few buildings are found since most live in shelters. The main activities are held by the younger generations among themselves. Being warriors or soldiers of Tlaneyanco, they seek confrontations to overcome themselves. The fights are not only physical, they range from sports to intellectual. Once a year for an entire week, several tournaments are held pertaining to these competitions, in which the fighters can win a valuable prize: access to the temple of Tonatiuhtcipactli to ask for its knowledge.

Tlapoyatenco

Extension: 107km2

Marginalized area of Tlaneyanco, delimited by its main river, functioning as a magical barrier preventing the passage of its inhabitants to other places. Its foundation dates back to the times of Kokolimina, where his followers were punished to live in the demarcation for their actions. For many centuries, its inhabitants tried to leave the place by force without any success, until the test to pass the river became a place to be offered as a gift to Mixtonatiuhteotl8. Its technological and cultural progress is highly lagging, with almost null or contradictory traditions; the only celebration that remains is "The Dance of the Tlacatisuchil".

  • Selena García Forero: One of the few mestizas in Tlapoyatenco, she suffered discrimination for this throughout her stay in the area. During her last years there, she tried to change the attitude of the people, organizing strikes and protests. With time she lost all support and decided that she should leave the area. She is serious, clings strongly to her beliefs and actions, and is very imposing, she always prefers to look for a solution to her problems, even if it means leaving people close to her behind. Leader of the team formed by Rosa and Raquel.

Tlaquillotla

Extension: 382km2

Demarcation dedicated solely to agriculture, with large portions of land used to grow different types of crops. There are small communities that decided to stay there due to their dislike for the progress of the main urban demarcations. Despite this, their farming techniques are still the best in Tlaneyanco.

  • Raquel Cartajena Sánchez: From a large peasant family, unlike her siblings, she always wanted to become a chef and establish her own restaurant in Tonatiuman. She migrated to Tletlan to continue her studies, but due to her carefree and playful nature she was never able to concentrate enough and gave up on her dream career. She is currently outside of Tlaneyanco along with Rosa and Selena, living her adventure with great excitement.

Xochititlan

Extension: 229km2

Demarcation inhabited by varied religious communities of the Tonatiuh dragons, their houses are mostly built with vegetation. There has been an increase in its population in the last decades, due to it being a very peaceful place and not as busy as all the other demarcations.

Radiosol

IsoSue%C3%B1oNuclear.png

Radiosol's commercial isotype

Radiosol is a company specialized in the creation of paratechnological products. It focuses on the modification of organisms via unknown processes through the use of an energy called "tlanextlitetl". This energy has certain similarities with nuclear energy and has even been theorized to be an anomalous form of the latter. They have also been documented creating buildings, food, and weapons.

Its main and only headquarters is located somewhere in the Sierra Madre Oriental in an extradimensional city known as "Tlaneyanco". Attempts by the Foundation, the GOC, and other Groups of Interest to find such a location have been unsuccessful. It is theorized that access is restricted by various types of anomalous barriers and unknown methods of concealment.

Before 2007, its presence was only known in Tlaneyanco due to it being the most important company in the city, covering primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary sectors. During 2007, its leader left their position, which was later taken over by Teresa Bárbara to use it as a tool for expansion and interaction with other Groups of Interest. So far alliances have been confirmed with: the Cult of the Great Green God and Ambrose Restaurants.

Due to the impossibility of attacking them directly, the Foundation and the GOC continue to look for ways to mitigate this company's trades. Plans for a raid are still ongoing due to the military strength of the group and Tlaneyanco in general. An agreement with Queen Teresa Bárbara by the Foundation to regulate the circulation of their products has also been proposed.

As time goes by, their allies are increasing considerably, causing them to become a great threat to the Veil in general. For the time being, no agency in charge of maintaining normalcy has been able to capture any member of Radiosol. However, an external group seems to be in charge of neutralizing and recovering the anomalies created by the company.
