KO × FR 2026 Contest
Cultures in Connection
For the first time, two branches team up to organize a joint contest and share their entries through a cross-translation system, allowing each community to discover the works of the other. Over the course of two and a half months, the event will combine writing, translation, and the reading of entries from the partner branch.
The contest also features a unique twist: each branch’s winning entry will be chosen by the other branch! Translation efforts will continue after the contest so that every entry can eventually be made available in the partner branch’s language.
✦ Contest Format
The contest will be divided into four stages:
✦ First, each branch will hold a local round in which participants publish their entries and vote for their favorites.
✦ This will be followed by a translation stage, during which entries will be prepared for the partner branch. The highest-ranking entries will be translated first so that they can be presented during the third stage. The long-term goal is to translate and share every submission.
✦ The translated entries will then be presented to the partner branch for voting. Each branch’s winner will therefore be chosen by the other branch’s community.
✦ Finally, translation efforts will continue after the contest so that all entries can eventually be shared between both branches.
✦ Contest Theme
Foundation lore from your branch…
Choose any element created and used within your branch, such as an SCP, department, character, event, or other piece of lore. You may use multiple elements and may also incorporate lore from the partner branch.
…meets a real-world cultural element from the other branch
Choose from one of four categories:
✦ History and Society: a major event or historical figure
✦ Folklore and Mythology: legends and traditions
✦ Art and Creations: a movement, artist, author, work, or aesthetic
✦ Places and Geography: a notable location
Specific rule for INT duos:
For mixed teams (KO/FR), the constraint is entirely free. You can choose to follow either the FR prompt (FR Lore + KO Culture) or the KO prompt (KO Lore + FR Culture). Writing in a cross-branch duo is already challenging enough, so we did not add extra constraints. You have the freedom to pick what works best for your team. However, if you feel adventurous, you are also completely free to go all out and combine everything (FR Lore + KO Lore + FR Culture + KO Culture)!
✦ Rules details
Phase locale
- Each participant must submit an original entry, written specifically for the contest and following the announced theme.
- The entry can be an SCP, a tale, or a GdI format.
- Participation can be done solo or through co-writing; in that case, all co-authors must be credited.
- You cannot vote on your own article, but you may comment on it.
- Once your article is published, you may make minor changes, such as syntax or visual/display corrections. However, you cannot add substantial changes to your article before the end of the contest.
- In the specific case of collaboration between a member of the francophone branch and a member of the Korean branch, the entry must be written in English and published on the international branch as an SCP-INT, in the hub that will soon be opened on the International branch.
Translation phase
- After the local phase, entries will initially be translated according to their ranking, with the highest-ranked texts translated first.
- A dedicated hub will be opened on the international branch to centralize and manage contest entry translations.
- Each translation team commits to translating a minimum of three articles from the other branch into English, so they become accessible to the partner community.
- The francophone branch will translate at least the first three Korean entries from English into French, while the Korean branch will translate at least the first three francophone entries from French into English.
- Once this minimum is reached (three FR → EN translations and three EN → FR translations), there will be no limit on the number of entries that may be translated.
- Contest participants are encouraged to translate their own entry into English already during the local reading phase, in order to facilitate translation work and speed up the next phase.
- Participants from both branches are also encouraged to translate entries from the other branch available on the hub: francophone participants from English into French, and Korean participants from French into English.
- The English translations will be stored on the international hub, so they can serve as a shared intermediary version for both branches.
- Authors may be asked questions or asked to clarify certain cultural, linguistic, or contextual elements in order to facilitate translation.
- In the case of collaboration between a francophone member and a Korean member, each of the two members will be responsible for translating the entry into their own branch’s language for the next phase.
- All texts translated into the other language at the end of the first translation phase will be published on the same day on the other branch, in order to start the voting in an equitable way for both communities.
Cross-phase
- The translated texts will be presented to the partner branch, which can read them and vote for its preferred entries.
- The winners will be determined by the partner branch’s votes: each community will therefore select the winning text from the other branch (only votes from local members of that receiving branch will be counted).
- Once the contest is over, translation may continue in order to progressively make all entries accessible to both communities.

They are also encouraged to join the ko-fr-contest channel on the SCP International Discord server to ask questions and gain a better understanding of the cultural specifics addressed.

Phase 1 — Writing: 01/09 to 30/09 (1 month)

Phase 4 — Voting on the other branch: 16/11 to 30/11 (2 weeks)
Phase 5 — Translation of the remaining works: After 30 November
✦ INT Registration
To participate, each member must create their own registration block using the model below:
- First, indicate your identifier and the link to your text (you can use a temporary link or complete it once the article is published).
- Then add the lore element linked to your branch, as well as the cultural element belonging to the other branch. These choices remain modifiable until the last day of the writing phase.
- Finally, you can customize the appearance of your block by adding the category associated with your choice: "history", "myth", "art", "places"
