We here give you a formal greeting. Hello, we are the O5 council, and we’ve decided to write this document. You must be quite surprised by the last sentence, but oh well, indeed, SCP-001 does not exist.
If you are a valid accessor, i.e. a new wannabe O5 member… The O5 in charge of your training must have given you numerous SCP-001 documents and given this one to read last, didn’t they? How are you feeling now? Take a breath, and keep reading. I won’t be prudish or weight about in front of you. Ha. You see, all the SCP-001’s you saw before this are all a lie and a truth at the same time.
Let me elaborate.
SCP-001, technically speaking, does exist. SCP-001, AKA the “Original SCP” s refer to various SCPs. The list is as follows.
- SCP-001 "The Prototype"
- SCP-001 "The Lock"
- SCP-001 "The Foundation" (The O5 council calls it 'the site.)
- SCP-001 "Sheaf of Papers"
- SCP-001 "The Factory" (The O5 council calls them "Factory made products")
- And so on.
You’ll see the real reports of these items later. I really want to take you in front of SCP-001, but being an O5, that would be impossible. Let me see, want to take a peek? Let’s look at SCP-001, “The Foundation.” This is a site where the Foundation rented when it was still the “SCP laboratory”. It used to be Base-17 of the SCP Laboratory. Well, there was the inconvenience that one has to go searching for the employee cafeteria after they sleep, but it isn’t a strange building like the SCP-001, “The Foundation” that you just saw. Honestly speaking, we haven’t even found any place like that to date. The one closest to the truth is SCP-001, “The Prototype”, but many seem to neglect it because it feels so dull to them. Anyways, the reason that these have all the same SCP number is simply that the Foundation obtained them before it had an elaborate system. We just labelled them out of confusion.
Why do we not tell the truth? Why would ordinary employees search for SCP-001? Would they have looked for SCP-001 if they had doubts? We do this to plant a false sense of pride to them, that they are protecting something enormous like this, when in fact, it’s nothing. To be frank, SCP-682 is much impressive than SCP-001, and you’ll know this if you read the reports. … It’s laughable. Yes, the Foundation is run by people like you and me. Crappy, isn’t it? It is since the people build the foundation.
SCPs did not make the Foundation, people did.
People often forget the fact that the SCP Foundation is here to protect humanity, not to contain SCPs. O5-10 wrote the false SCP-001s that lead you to believe that the Foundation is built for SCPs, usually her being completely drunk in beer. Ah, I don’t know which one since the numbers change every decade or so.
Before the Foundation was built, countries gathered and made use of SCPs without hesitation. Competition arose during the first world war, and this corrupt passion led to catastrophes like SCP-186. Numerous countries organized secret squadrons in their military, where their members would gather and test the lethality of the anomalies, and weaponize them. It was horrible. Many officers and soldiers quit their jobs after what terror they saw. Ryan G. Keterl, the founder and namer of the SCP Foundation, and his colleagues were some of them. Keter first named our organization the “SCP Research Facility.” The facility soon changed its name to “SCP Foundation”. Soon it went through a trial by fire in the events of the revolt by the Chaos Insurgency, serving as the “Order” against the “Chaos.” Details are here. This is the record a Class 1 agent wrote procrastinating while preparing for his graduate school exam. Doesn't seem like much? … That's the reason why the O5 council decided to write this document.
Anyways, law and order. The O in O5 stands for those kinds of words; words which you should always keep in mind. “Order.” Well, we tend to stick various words nowadays, but when we were fighting against the CI, we used the word “Order.” Yes, we’re not the sole saviours of the world. We’re just one of the many organization that strives to protect humanity. We’re not that clean of a group. You’ll know once you’ve become one of us. The first O5 to ever retire was an ordinary librarian, and the O5 that laid the foundation of the MTF was a security guard of the Foundation building. An O5 promoted from a rank-0 personnel is swayed around by his family. The O5 who ordered to write this document did not even have a masters degree when they did so. Just like you are regular people with each of our imperfections. This quaint organization, as you see survived, thanks to law and order. They are indeed the last line that keeps us falling into chaos. Like a soldier follows orders, or a priest follows God, we should keep in the boundaries of order, until the moment you retire.
People built the Foundation. Law and order holds it together.
