SCP-055-JP

Item #: SCP-055-JP

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: As SCP-055-JP is a megastructure located far from Earth, physical containment is impossible. Accordingly, containment efforts focus primarily on restricting public information regarding the object. The object's status is subject to constant monitoring, with observation conducted via four high-resolution astronomical telescopes from the Earth's surface. Any mention of SCP-055-JP is to be deleted from all sources including but not limited to books, academic papers, online content, news outlets, and private research facilities. Individuals claiming to have discovered SCP-055-JP are to be administered Class B amnestics. Experiments require approval from O5-█.

Description: SCP-055-JP currently orbits within a range of approximately 100,000 km to 200,000 km from the Earth's center. It is cylindrical in shape, approximately 4 km in diameter and 26 km in length, with an appearance resembling that of the tobacco mosaic virus. Its interior serves as habitable space, estimated to contain living quarters for roughly tens of thousands of people. Each "cluster" has an accessible gate that opens and closes automatically. These gates also operate automatically during Foundation entry attempts, suggesting an unknown mechanism for distinguishing between debris and "visitors." Each cluster forms an independent compartment, likely serving as a risk mitigation measure in case of accidents. A single cluster measures approximately 1.2 km in height and 2.5 km in diameter.

While no visible damage to its exterior suggests a highly robust structure, most of its functions appear to be inactive. The internal atmosphere consists of 85% nitrogen, 11% carbon dioxide, 3% oxygen, and 1% other gases, rendering it unsuitable for human habitation. The ambient temperature is approximately -15°C. Despite being designed assuming gravity acting towards the cylinder's center, the interior is currently in a zero-gravity state; it is believed some mechanism for generating gravity once existed. A residential section comprises multiple levels with the cylinder's center as the base, with living spaces increasing in size the closer they are to the base. All internal buildings contain no furniture or similar items, being formed entirely from cement blocks of unknown composition resembling concrete, predominantly white in color. The buildings show influences of modernist architecture, featuring minimal decoration with an emphasis on functionality and efficiency.

Alongside the structural elements, a significant proportion of the space appears to have been intended for planting vegetation, though no actual traces of plants have been reported. The interior is completely sterile, with no biological life detected. In every aspect, including its structural composition, an unknown technology beyond the scope of modern human science has been employed, prompting ongoing research by the Foundation.

Due to the fact that its location makes investigation both extremely costly and highly dangerous, coupled with technical difficulties, interior exploration has not progressed significantly. Furthermore, its apparent attitude control system, which likely functioned at one time, is no longer operational and poses a potential risk of future impact with the Earth's surface. The estimated weight of SCP-055-JP is believed to exceed 20 million tons, and its impact is expected to cause substantial damage.

The earliest known records concerning what is believed to be SCP-055-JP date back to the 1930s. Initially reported by a civilian researcher as a comet exhibiting an unusual trajectory, it was later identified as an artificial object during a █████████ government investigation in 195█. Subsequently, the Foundation designated it as an SCP object and assumed responsibility for its investigation and research.
