Item #: SCP-113-JP
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-113-JP instances and their eggs are to be placed in reinforced acrylic containers along with moistened, sterile, absorbent cotton, and stored in a low-temperature storage chamber. The containment chamber is equipped with dual airlocks, particulate filters, and humidifiers; the filters must be replaced on a regular basis. Personnel interacting directly with SCP-113-JP are required to wear Level 4 biohazard suits.
The Foundation Intelligence Department is to monitor SCP-113-JP infection cases in the general public; in the event of such cases, Mobile Task Force ゆ-16 "Woodpeckers" is to secure SCP-113-JP and SCP-113-JP-1 instances. Following this, the affected area is to be subjected to insecticide spraying, filtration operations at the sewage treatment facility, and electric current application procedures. Monitoring of the area is to be maintained for at least eight months.
All SCP-113-JP-1 instances are to be treated in the Infected Patient Care Ward in Sector-8126. Upon failure of treatment efforts, the instances are to be terminated by a timer-based electric current application device and then incinerated as a Level 4 contaminant.
Description: SCP-113-JP is a roundworm-like parasitic organism about 15 cm long, with a unique self-defense mechanism. SCP-113-JP eggs disperse into the air as fine particulate matter when dry and enter the host's body via respiration or food, before hatching and growing primarily in their intestines; once fully mature, they lay a large number of eggs through parthenogenesis. During this process, the host becomes bedridden with severe diarrhea and extensive inflammation and pain in the intestines, which eventually results in systemic dysfunction and death. In rare cases, the eggs hatch on the skin surface and cause very severe scabies and rheumatoid-like symptoms that render the host immobile, but not fatal. However, the anomalous property described below manifests itself whether SCP-113-JP is in contact with the intestines or the skin.
SCP-113-JP's anomalous property is its mental interference with any healer (including those who provide advice, prayer, or euthanasia) when they attempt to help the host (designated as SCP-113-JP-1). SCP-113-JP-1 typically seeks medical attention because of initial fatigue and fever, where the medical professionals they interact with express intense fear, disgust, or indifference and refuse to treat them. This reaction becomes more vehement as the severity of the symptoms caused by SCP-113-JP is better understood. This results in SCP-113-JP-1 being left untreated and can easily progress to a terminal condition. SCP-113-JP-1 may also be denied treatment for other injuries and illnesses; in 45% of cases the Foundation has confirmed, the host's death was due to other causes (including, as one example, a man who died 11 days after falling into a pit and not being rescued). SCP-113-JP-1 themselves are not affected by this mental interference and are able to take medications and visit hospitals.
SCP-113-JP exhibits extraordinary antimicrobial resistance, both as an egg and as an adult, and there is currently no means to alleviate its symptoms. As such, the immediate problem is that the only viable treatment is surgical removal of the affected area by SCP-113-JP-1 themselves. However, most SCP-113-JP-1 instances do not have the necessary strength and skills to carry out the self-surgery when they have made the decision to do so. Despite the Foundation's various attempts to provide treatment, only the containment and transport of SCP-113-JP-1 instances has been achieved so far. The only patient who successfully managed to perform self-surgery was a Foundation doctor who was able to identify the cause based on their symptoms before the condition became severe; moreover, this patient was a unique case because they were born with a numbed sense of pain. Since the containment of the third SCP-113-JP-1 instance, a sensor-based electric current application device for self-termination has been introduced as an ethical consideration.
SCP-113-JP was discovered during an investigation of a sudden surge of medical scandals near the city of ██████████. As SCP-113-JP initially spread through mosquitoes, the spraying of insecticides was successful in reducing the number of infected individuals, albeit indirectly. However, its specific origin prior to infecting mosquitoes is entirely unknown, and it is possible that a major outbreak could occur in the future despite the current containment procedures.
