Item #: SCP-124-FR
Threat Level: Orange ●
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: The various members of the SCP-124-FR colony must be contained at Site Aleph in a greenhouse with an area of 10,000m² and a height of 10m, in total a volume of 100,000m3. This greenhouse has been designed in order to reproduce their natural environment and must contain a pond and a cave of respectively 500m2 and 1000m2. To avoid uncontrolled self-ignition of the specimens, the air in the greenhouse has to contain 5% of O2 minimum. In order to prevent any hostile reaction, this percentage should never fall below the 4.5% threshold. If this is the case, latches with grids placed on the ceiling will open O2 pockets until the concentration has reached 10%. To stabilize the proportion of dioxygen in the greenhouse, an O2 developer designed by Dr. Benji will be established.
Access to the containment area requires a Level 2 authorization. Access is permitted without special safety procedures, provided that it remains more than 50 m from any specimen of SCP-124-FR. If an approach is required, a flame retardant suit shall be used.
Following SCP-124-FR-a, access to the containment zone is prohibited without a Level 3 clearance. Any violation of this rule will result in a demotion of the member(s). Any physical damage due to non-compliance with the safety rules will not be subject to internal prosecution of the Foundation. The medical expenses must be refunded to the latter within 48 hours after the end of the medical care. Any person wishing to enter the greenhouse after obtaining the necessary authorization must wear a flameproof, acid-resistant suit and a breathing system connected to two air canister of 1,5 Liters.
A total mass of one tonne (1t) of meat of various origins must be introduced into the Containment Zone every day, three (3) times.
Description: SCP-124-FR are creatures that look similar to Komodo Dragons (Varanus komodoensis). Most are between three and five meters (3 to 5m) and weigh about 170kg, some females nevertheless reach a lenght of more than seven meters (7m) for a weight of 220 kilograms. Their bodies are covered with flame retardant scales, the color of which varies between yellow and red depending on the individual, two specimens possess scales with blue reflections. Males have thicker bones and osteoderma distributed over the back, legs and tail. Their jaws present 85 tribaritic molars and ten incisors. These are continually growing and fall after reaching a size of five centimeters (5cm). They have a long, forked yellow tongue underneath of which is located a stone composed of flint, capable of creating sparks when it rubs against another stone located at the roof of the jaws. Their legs end with long curved claws.
The normal body temperature is approximately 120 ° Celsius, if it drops too much, the subject dies (the limit has been set at 96.5°C). No maximum limit has been observed, the more the body temperature increases, more the creatures are active and showing signs of good health. Their saliva is composed of 70% styrene, a flammable liquid of category 3, slightly toxic it causes skin irritations in case of prolonged contact. Since styrene vapor is highly flammable, instances of SCP-124-FR are capable of exhaling jets of flame when their buccal flints collide. They use this skill for hunting and building their habitat. They are also able to flutter their whole body, this seems to be a defensive mechanism.
The breeding mode of the SCP-124-FR is oviparous, after a gestation of four months, the female lays its eggs in a brazier that it lights itself, she then cover them like a Galinacea until hatching . Both parents are extremely protective of their offspring until their sexual maturity (5 years).
The SCP-124-FR colony owned by the Foundation (9 individuals, four males and five females including three young) is the only known colony, individuals have become accustomed to human presence and are affectionate towards the Foundation's staff who take care of them. Young specimens are playful, they tend to set fire to their environment for no particular reason.
Note to Personnel: As nice as the SCP-124-FR are, I would like to remind you of their dangerousness. We already lost 3 staff members and more than 14,500 € of material in the fires caused by these "cute little salamanders".
Their diet is omnivorous however they have the particularity of eating only cooked food and drinking water only when it boils. They were observed hunting in pack in a very organized manner, some members acting as a retreater while other individuals were waiting to be able to encircle their prey. They hunt medium-sized mammals (wolves, foxes, kangaroos, etc.) in priority, but can attack larger animals, even humans if they can't find other preys.
instances of SCP-124-FR never wash, however, their hygiene is impeccable, with 99.9% of the bacteria being eliminated by their flames.
The generation of SCP-124-FR currently held by the Foundation is the second since their discovery in Australia on 06/17/12. A team of Foundation agents sent after the spread of rumors about "dragons at the origin of fires" discovered a cave housing a colony of specimens comprising 12 individuals. Two were killed during the recovery, the other colonies discovered on the territory were eliminated and a cover scenario was created. Agents █████ and ████████ died during the operation, Dr. ███ died on 06/24 at the medical center of Site ██ following his burns.
Incident 124-FR-a
During a test to observe the growth of specimens of SCP-124-FR throughout their life, Agent █████ was sent to retrieve an egg during a female's sleep.
When the officer turned around after taking the egg, he noticed three males positioned in a semicircle around him. The latter attacked him by spraying him with their saliva before exhaling flames. The corrosive properties of styrene damaged the flame retardant suit. Panicked, the agent left the greenhouse running, inflaming in his path some insufficiently protected plants that were there. As a result of these events, a fire broke out in the wing of Site Aleph containing the SCP-124-FR greenhouse and caused a major containment breach involving SCP-███-FR and SCP-███-FR as well as very heavy material damage.
Agent █████ died of third degree burns, Dr. ███████ who ordered him to retrieve an egg for this test was demoted and the confinement procedures reviewed .

Notes to the staff of Director-██████
Following your many questions, I will answer here the questions concerning the limitations of the experiments authorized on specimens of SCP-124-FR
- No, dissection of SCP-124-FR is not a solution to their understanding, we know enough about them, without the need for any surgery
- Yes, technically, we know enough about them to classify them in SCP-EX and as we know, their anatomy, as surprising as it is, is not abnormal. However, this classification would involve revealing to the world the existence of fire-breathing reptiles, which, in the eyes of today's humanity, seems to us to be a bad idea.
- Yes, SCP-124-FRs are peaceful, but remember that they are confined under special conditions that make them non-hostile, and if you think these procedures are flawless, refer to Incident 124-FR-a
- No, educating young SCP-124-FR to make pets or substituting them for dogs is not possible, due to our lack of knowledge about their brain, moreover, recovering one of the eggs is impossible, refer to Incident 124-FR-a
- No, the Foundation will not carry out a transgenesis operation on this species with the aim of incorporating wings. The Foundation is there to confine SCPs, not to create them. Also, refer to the previous note.
Ladies and gentlemen, I hope that this document answered your questions on SCP-124-FR.
Sincerely, Director ██████
Addendum 124-FR-c
A SCP-124-FR scale was taken from a corpse to explain the mechanism of inflammation of the specimens.
The tests demonstrated that they were capable of secreting a viscous styrene compound via glands under their dorsal scales. They inflame this liquid by generating flames from their tail.
