SCP-3412-JP

Item #: SCP-3412-JP

Object Class: Safe Thaumiel

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3412-JP is to be contained in a low-threat organism containment cell with walls partially converted to reinforced glass, and is to be handled according to the instructions of specialists. A minimum of one personnel is to be stationed in the adjacent standby room and to remain visible from inside the containment cell. Personnel interested in interacting with SCP-3412-JP may submit a request.

SCP-3412-JP is to be released.

Description: SCP-3412-JP is a dog (Canis lupus familiaris) of the German Shepherd breed. SCP-3412-JP has extremely high physical durability and does not require food1.

SCP-3412-JP is capable of detecting the nearest human to itself. The detection range extends in a spherical shape with SCP-3412-JP at its center, and it can also detect an individual separated by a wall or other obstacles, as well as an individual existing in a vertical direction. Experimental results suggest that the detectable distance is unlimited. This anomalous property does not appear to affect dead bodies, which makes SCP-3412-JP incapable of locating them.

SCP-3412-JP prefers to stay in the vicinity of humans and routinely attempts to approach the nearest individual or those in the immediate vicinity that come into its view2. When placed in an isolated environment where it is impossible to see any person, SCP-3412-JP barks or throws itself toward the direction where the nearest person is located. This behavior is repeated semi-permanently until such person becomes visible, which causes extensive damage to the containment equipment, thus prolonged isolation is not recommended.

When SCP-3412-JP encounters non-living objects such as dead bodies or robots disguised as humans, it shows a brief interest, but immediately distances itself from them. Notably, the same behavior is observed when persons in its vicinity die.

Prior to containment, SCP-3412-JP had been trained as a disaster rescue dog by the Japan Rescue Association. The reason for this is assumed to be that SCP-3412-JP was considered to have the qualities of a search dog due to the aforementioned anomalous property. However, it was never placed in operation until it was brought to the Foundation's attention due to the difficulties it faced in rescue operations because the “nearest person” at disaster sites was in reality a handler or a Japan Self-Defense Forces member, its inability to search for corpses, and its undesirable behavior when placed in an isolated space.

Although several personnel have suggested that SCP-3412-JP be utilized in containment operations and projects in view of its usefulness, there is no prospect of its deployment yet.
