Item #: SCP-344-DE

Object Class: Keter

Threat Levels: Orange

Secure Containment Procedures: As SCP-344-DE is tethered to SCP-344-DE-1, only Standard Procedures for Postmortem EVE Echoes are required. Therefore, SCP-344-DE-1 is to be stored in a standard-sized artefact containment room, which has been insulated with a Faraday cage.

SCP-344-DE is permitted to interact with authorised personnel who have permission to deal with the object.

It is strictly forbidden to bring mobile phones near SCP-344-DE. Failure to comply will result in demotion and transfer. To prevent accidents and incidents, personnel with pacemakers and similar prostheses must maintain a distance of 30 metres from SCP-344-DE-1.

Addendum 1: In order to maintain Status Continentur, the transport of electronic devices that are not explicitly permitted according to List 344-DE is prohibited and will be punished. The examination of unlisted equipment is the responsibility of the senior research staff.

Addendum 2: Until the situation has been fully clarified by the Department of Applied Necromancy, SCP-344-DE must not be informed of the presumed nature of SCP-344-DE-1-B. Furthermore, personnel without 4/344-DE clearance should continue to be led to believe that SCP-344-DE-1-B became anchored to the anomaly during its creation.

Description: SCP-344-DE is a Class 5 incorporeal entity for Postmortem EVE Echoes.1 SCP-344-DE is unable to move more than 25 metres away from SCP-344-DE-1. In its resting state, SCP-344-DE resembles a 1.80-metre-tall, translucent female with long black hair that reaches to her knees but is usually tied back in a braid. SCP-344-DE normally hovers about five centimetres above the ground.2 SCP-344-DE is capable of briefly assuming a physical form. In doing so, it grows to a size of 2.5 metres. In this form, it showed an allergy to sodium chloride. SCP-344-DE can temporarily penetrate and influence electrical and electronic devices, which it prefers to do in order to manipulate computers and mobile phones.3 SCP-344-DE also claims that it can utilise telephone infrastructure to increase its range, but it is still limited to a range of 25 metres.4

SCP-344-DE claims to be named "Andrea" and to have died in an incident in which the entity climbed an electricity pylon and was struck by lightning.5 SCP-344-DE also claims to feed on "electromagnetic radiation",6 but it is unclear whether SCP-344-DE actually requires nourishment. Experiments with various forms of energy have shown that the energies do indeed have an effect on SCP-344-DE. The entity emits different wavelengths with its fluorescence, including those in the visible spectrum.

SCP-344-DE-1 describes a chain with nine links (SCP-344-DE-1-A) and a heart-shaped pendant.

  • SCP-344-DE-1-A are the finger rings, piercings, and heart pendant that SCP-344-DE claimed to have been wearing at the time of his death. Since SCP-344-DE-1-A was apparently sold to other individuals after her death and, in one case, recast, it is no longer possible to determine whether this is accurate.
  • SCP-344-DE-1-B is a self-contained chain with a diameter of 20 centimetres and 18 segments, cast from the steel of an electricity pylon and whose components were originally found in several household items before the SCP Foundation was able to gather all the pieces together. It is unclear why these particular parts have an effect on SCP-344-DE. The current theory is that this was the point of direct contact when SCP-344-DE was created. (See Note on SCP-344-DE-1-B for more information)

Originally, SCP-344-DE was capable of manifesting in multiple locations as long as a segment of SCP-344-DE-1 was nearby, however, for the sake of simplifying containment, SCP-344-DE-1 was created as a singular anchor.

Discovery: SCP-344-DE was discovered when several reports emerged of an “electronic ghost” haunting electronics stores and households. The SCP Foundation only became involved when a group of amateur ghost hunters investigated and was able to document the existence of SCP-344-DE.

Due to the nature of SCP-344-DE and the number of SCP-344-DE-1 components, it took a considerable amount of time before SCP-344-DE could finally be contained. SCP-344-DE initially put up strong resistance and even attempted to redistribute and fragment SCP-344-DE-1-B instances, but became more cooperative over time when the SCP Foundation offered to provide it with entertainment and company.

Annotation on SCP-344-DE-1-B: SCP-344-DE-1-B was originally identified as a segment of an electricity pylon. However, a detailed analysis of its provenance has revealed this hypothesis to be inaccurate. A study by the Department of Applied Necromancy has determined that SCP-344-DE-1-B was not involved in the creation of the anomaly, but is instead a Curiean Focus.7 Based solely on SCP-344-DE's statements and the documented haunting, the Department of Applied Necromancy assumes that SCP-344-DE haunted the household appliances shortly after their manifestation, thereby binding itself to them.

SCP-344-DE must not be informed of the nature of SCP-344-DE-1-B until it has been determined whether the anomaly can create new instances of SCP-344-DE-1-B.
