Item #: SCP-3537-JP

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: As direct containment of SCP-3537-JP is impractical, containment efforts focus on post-incident response. Affected individuals are to be administered amnestics, and appropriate cover stories such as 'Minor Slip-and-Fall Accident' are to be applied.

A protocol to suppress SCP-3537-JP occurrences is currently under development. For details, [Security Clearance Level 3 Required].

Description: SCP-3537-JP is a phenomenon that occurs with an extremely low probability (less than 0.001%) when any of the following actions are performed using electronic devices:

  • Posting text that insults or defames [REDACTED] City on social media platforms, web forums, or blogs.
  • Searching for text that insults or defames [REDACTED] City using an internet browser.
  • Inputting content that insults or defames [REDACTED] City into a chatbot or conversational artificial intelligence.

When these actions are performed, a human right arm (SCP-3537-JP-A) manifests from the display screen of the involved electronic device. SCP-3537-JP-A wears a suit sleeve and an armband bearing the municipal emblem of [REDACTED] City. SCP-3537-JP-A then proceeds to slap the individual responsible for inputting the insulting text. This results in the victim suffering physical harm including skin damage, facial swelling, and nosebleeds. After delivering one slap, SCP-3537-JP-A is drawn back into the screen and disappears.1 Notably, it has been confirmed that two or more SCP-3537-JP-A instances can manifest simultaneously in different locations.

Addendum: To narrow down the factors triggering SCP-3537-JP, a test was conducted where Foundation personnel who favor [REDACTED] City, those who dislike it, and those with no knowledge of the city each entered the same insulting text multiple times.2 The results showed no significant difference in its occurrence probability, suggesting that SCP-3537-JP is triggered regardless of the inputter's actual feelings toward [REDACTED] City.

It has also been determined that lengthy, sarcastic, or rhetorically ambiguous forms of slander or constructive criticism have a low likelihood of triggering SCP-3537-JP; conversely, short, direct insults are concluded to be more prone to triggering it.

Update: It was discovered that SCP-3537-JP incidents are significantly more frequent from the end of Japan's fiscal year to the beginning of the new one (late March to early/mid-April) . Furthermore, the majority of those affected by SCP-3537-JP during this period were individuals who had newly relocated to [REDACTED] City.

Interviews revealed that these individuals were searching online for [REDACTED] City's garbage collection schedule and recycling methods when SCP-3537-JP was triggered. This suggests that they met the occurrence criteria for SCP-3537-JP by inputting '[REDACTED] city garbage' or similar text into a search engine. Based on this finding, the Foundation has advocated for [REDACTED] City to distribute information regarding garbage collection in paper format.
