Item #: SCP-3714-JP

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: In order to prevent SCP-3714-JP from being exposed, Foundation webcrawlers are to monitor social networking services. In addition, in anticipation of space agencies discovering SCP-3714-JP, Foundation agents are to prepare to enact Level 2 Restraining Procedures.

Foundation AIs are to continuously collect information on terminally ill individuals between the ages of 0 and 18. If such individuals are reported missing, a specialized station is to investigate whether the incident is related to SCP-3714-JP. If it is determined to be related, Foundation personnel are to intervene.

Description: SCP-3714-JP is an anomalous withdrawal phenomenon occurring in young humans. The bodies of subjects affected by SCP-3714-JP will slowly become translucent and intangible over the course of an hour, starting at 23:00. When the subject reaches 70% transparency, this process will end.

Following this, the subject will slowly rise into the sky due to a force from an unknown source. At this point, the personnel will pass through any obstructions in their path. This continues for 1 to 2 hours, at which point the subject will have reached an altitude of 10 km; however, the subject will not feel any discomfort, which is theorized to be a side effect of the transparency.

The subject will then pass through the stratosphere and mesosphere and outer space. While air does not exist at this altitude, the subject will still appear to be capable of normal breathing. It is thought that in this state, the subject is impervious to conditions that would typically be lethal, and will continue rising while remaining conscious and alive.

Following this, the subject will be pulled towards various celestial objects, namely the moon's mares, Mercury's craters, Venus' Maxwell Montes, Mars' polar ice caps, Jupiter's Great Red Spot, and Saturn's rings, before slowly leaving the Solar System through the orbits of Uranus and Neptune.

Upon reaching a certain distance from the Earth, the external force that had previously attracted the subject will cease, and the subject will be left to float in space. After approximately half an hour of floating, the subject will curl up in the fetal position, lose consciousness, and once again become opaque, beginning to produce a strong light. At this point, the subject's density will anomalously increase, and the subject's surface temperature will rapidly increase.

Eventually, the subject will become a sphere while continuing to produce light at a level perceived from Earth as similar to a 7th to 4th magnitude star. The subject is seen to behave similarly to a star, and it is thought that this will continue for several million years.

Subjects that undergo SCP-3714-JP are typically children under the age of 10. However, a 14-year-old male and 17-year-old female have been recorded to have undergone SCP-3714-JP. As such, the limit of 18 years of age has been selected due to the ease of selection.

Of note is that individuals affected by SCP-3714-JP are invariably terminally ill patients who have received an estimated lifespan days to months prior to the event.
