A drum-type washing machine.
Item #: SCP-3773-JP
Containment Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: No containment measures have yet been established for SCP-3773-JP. Any SCP-3773-JP occurrence is to be disguised as a non-anomalous death by administering amnestics to the targeted individual's associates and through disinformation tactics. The corpse is then to be transferred to a Foundation morgue for analysis, followed by either storage at a local site or burial arrangements.
Description: SCP-3773-JP is a relatively rare paranormal phenomenon that affects drum-type washing machines. SCP-3773-JP is triggered in a low probability when an individual inserts a part of their body (typically one arm) into the inside of a drum-type washing machine.
Upon the occurrence of SCP-3773-JP, the subject's body is instantly absorbed into the interior of the washing machine. Simultaneously, an unknown mechanism compresses the subject's body to a size that exactly fits inside the machine. Following this process, the machine closes its lid before starting up and initiating the washing regardless of the availability of water or power supply.
In all cases, SCP-3773-JP concludes with the lid opening after approximately three hours of washing. A compressed corpse of the subject is contained inside the machine, whose death is attributed to asphyxiation, bruising all over the body, and cardiac failure caused by being in a state of extreme distress, among others.
Since its discovery by the Foundation, SCP-3773-JP has occurred on average three times per month to date. So far, more than one SCP-3773-JP incident has occurred in twenty-six countries and regions, with no apparent pattern in time, weather, or targeted individuals.
Update: Two recent extranormal events are under investigation for their close similarity to SCP-3773-JP. These two extranormal events are tentatively designated as EE-3773-JP-1 and EE-3773-JP-2.
EE-3773-JP-1 occurred in a room in an apartment building located in Osaka, Japan; the occupant, a 65-year-old female, was found dead with her head and upper body inserted into a top-loading washing machine. The cause of death was asphyxiation caused by water inside the machine, and her face and surrounding areas were in a state of severe decomposition due to the delayed discovery of the corpse.
EE-3773-JP-2 occurred in a house located in Kentucky, USA; a 13-year-old male resident was found dead after his body was extremely compressed to the size of the inside of a shoe washing machine. The cause of death was a drastic shift in blood pressure due to the washing machine's drying function lasting several hours, and the corpse was initially treated as that of a wild animal due to the discrepancy from the subject's original size and the fact that the corpse contained almost no water and hardly retained its original shape.
The washing machines involved in these extranormal events were both recovered and have not exhibited any anomalous properties through testing. Should these events be anomalies analogous or derivative of SCP-3773-JP, it is possible that similar phenomena could occur in an environment where a single individual and any type of washing machine are present.
