Item #: SCP-395-DE

Object Class: Euclid Neutralized

Special Containment Procedures: Currently, no containment of singular specimens is possible due to the instance's short lifespan. Civil attention regarding such incidents is to be counteracted via disinformation campaigns. Upon the discovery of an affected residence, the source is to be destroyed and the subject amnestitzed.

Description: SCP-395-DE designates a form of spectral siege that exclusively occurs in the village of [REDACTED] in the night from October 31 to November 1 and solely upon the fulfillment of the following factors: If a person has spiked the confectionery handed out to the house visitors with hazardous objects (such as razor blades or poison) and placed a carved or artificial pumpkin in proximity to their house, it will become the starting point of SCP-395-DE and emit abruptly fluctuating levels of radiation. Afterwards, SCP-395-DE-1 instances are created which are generally seen as ghosts due to lacking a physical body and their light blue, glowing coloration and cannot interact with psychical matter. Usually, they are invisible to humans, but occasionally appear to startle their victims. Instances are consistently visible on camera recordings. In the first night of the aforementioned time period, millipedes (Myriapoda) with a lenght of 30 cm appear, which immediately go to the food supplies of the affected person to hide inside of them.

If the person responsible for spiking the confectionery consumes an infested comestible, the taste buds of the tongue are are irreversibly damaged so that all following food tastes like expired milk. To intensify this condition even further, the instance will lay on the victim's brain and amplifies the signals sent to the thalamus and cerebral cortex regarding the taste sensation. Moreover, victims deny the the need to counteract this circumstance, which is attributable to a cognitohazardous effect of the instance. The infestation often leads to an inadequate food intake and emaciation, but hosts still consume enough to stay alive.

Should the symptoms mentioned above not result in the victim's death within a week, all non-ingested instances will vanish and the groceries spoil. In case the victim survives, other instances will appear in the following nights and ambush the instance. When said instances manifest seems to not follow a discernible pattern. The following is a tabular listing of all SCP-395-DE-1 instances documented thus far:

Instance Appearance Damage Pattern
Wasp (Vespinae) Inject a kind of ectoplasm that causes the affected to see ghostly apparitions of deceased and related persons. The hallucinogenic/psychotropic potency depends incrementally on the ectoplasm sum present within the host's body.
Spider (Zoropsis spinimana) Weaves a net of ectoplasm around the feet and/or hands, making them always appear cold. This effect cannot be inhibited via external stimuli and is also noticeable by other humans.
Common European adder (Vipera berus) Sporadically appears with a wide open jaw around the subject's neck when it looks in a mirror.
Mosquito (Culcidae) Seems to suck blood from the victim, however, this remains unverified. Victims desperately attempt to swat the instance, which is impossible due to its spectral properties.
