SCP-397-JP upon discovery.
Item #: SCP-397-JP
Object Class: Anomalous Safe Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-397-JP is to be placed in a containment chamber at Site-8123. The chamber is to be furnished with two chairs in addition to the standard equipment. SCP-397-JP is to be assigned six D-class personnel (hereinafter collectively referred to as D-397-JP,) who have been confirmed by preceding Test-397-JP to be capable of maintaining a certain level of concentration, on a rotational basis. D-397-JP members are to be pre-conditioned to open SCP-397-JP immediately upon its closure, and are to be used in pairs to ensure that SCP-397-JP remains open for a period of eight hours. In case of progression of it's anomalous properties, the SCP-397-JP monitoring station is to be staffed by, in addition to researchers, a minimum of two security guards armed with anti large animal equipment at all times.
Description: SCP-397-JP was once categorized as an Anomalous Item, but is now considered an SCP object. Note that the Anomalous Item Log provided below is from the time of its initial discovery and does not apply today.
Item Description: A concrete wall with a curtain mounted on it. When the curtain is closed, the view of blue sky and grassland can be seen behind it. When the curtain is open, nothing can be seen except the concrete wall.
Date of Recovery: 2012/3/21
Location of Recovery: A defunct hotel in ████████ district of Osaka Prefecture, Japan
Current Status: In storage.
Since it is through the curtain, the scenery is too vague to be enjoyable. Well, at least there's some light coming in, which could be used to adjust the biological clock. - Dr. Honeori
SCP-397-JP is the collective designation for a concrete wall and a thin greenish-brown curtain mounted thereon, which was discovered in a defunct hotel in ████████ district of Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Its anomalous properties manifest themselves as a grassland under a blue sky and a forest in the distance observable through the curtain, despite the absence of a window on the other side. These features disappear when the curtain is opened, leaving nothing but a wall and curtain. In addition, any attempt to make contact with the scenery through the curtain fails to confirm the presence of a window by tactile sensation, and only the concrete wall is felt through the curtain.
The scenery visible through SCP-397-JP appears to be virtually unchanged at any given time. See Addendum. Regardless of the season or time of day, the same sunlight, blue sky, grassland, and forest can be seen through the curtain.
Another confirmed feature of SCP-397-JP is that if the curtain is left open, it closes by itself and displays the scenery while no human is focused on observing it. In the case where SCP-397-JP was continuously observed by surveillance cameras, a few seconds of noise interfered with the footage, after which the curtain was observed to close and display the scenery. In experiments where the curtain was held open by various means such as strings, nails and robotic arms, SCP-397-JP was found to be closed with all these items removed at some point. In another experiment where the curtain was removed and stored in a safe, it was found to be reattached to the wall in a closed state while the guard was slightly distracted from the safe.
The examination of the samples taken from SCP-397-JP did not reveal any unusual aspects of the curtain, curtain rail, or concrete wall; the curtain was identical to those installed in all rooms of the hotel when it was in operation. The hotel was shut down due to simple financial difficulties, and nothing anomalous about the management has yet been discovered.
Update 1: On 2012/5/14, Dr. Tennōji discovered the presence of something red and black in color in the forest behind the item. This development qualified SCP-397-JP as a Safe class object. Hereinafter, this being is denoted as SCP-397-JP-1.
Update 2: On 2012/6/17, it was confirmed that SCP-397-JP-1 was clearly approaching the observer's side and that its approximate height, estimated from the surrounding trees, was over six meters.
Update 3: On 2012/7/22, SCP-397-JP-1 was confirmed to be a humanoid entity with black and reddish-brown skin, with arms and claws long enough to touch the ground. This qualified SCP-397-JP as an Euclid class object.
Update 4: On 2012/7/26, it was determined that SCP-397-JP-1's approach stops as long as SCP-397-JP's curtain is open. This resulted in a major revision of its Special Containment Procedures.
Update 5: As of 20██/██/██, a noticeable increase in the speed of SCP-397-JP-1's approach to the observer's side has been noted. In addition, what was thought to be SCP-397-JP-1's reddish-brown skin has been determined to be a large amount of human clothing stitched together, possibly discolored by blood deposits.
