Item #: SCP-CN-003

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:

  • The subject has been recorded onto a ██ cm by ██ cm sheet of standard paper using a randomly generated phoneme-to-grapheme correspondence table. The correspondence table and the record are separately contained in two maximum-security safes equipped with mechanisms to automatically incinerate their comments upon being forcibly opened. This containment system is complete and does not require upkeep. Only Council personnel may access the safes, barring alterations to the Containment Procedures.
  • One living carrier, a human designated SCP-CN-003-1 and formerly named ██████████, has been contained in a 6 m x 6 m standard containment chamber ar Site-CN-12, and is provided with living essentials and a non-interactive entertainment device. Its neck is equipped with a sensor device, which will temporarily suffocate the subject and raise an alert upon detecting that it has vocalized ██ syllables in succession. Surveillance personnel are permitted to hold simple conversations with the subject to maintain its mental health. In the event that a severe risk of containment breach arises, the sensor device is also capable of terminating the subject; its remains can then be disposed in the standard manner. This information must be withheld from SCP-CN-003-1. Barring changes to the Containment Procedures, SCP-CN-003-1 will remain in containment until its natural death, and is to be guaranteed a basic degree of human rights with the abovementioned exceptions.
  • A related object, SCP-CN-003-2, is an antique book titled Another Key of Eden, estimated to be at least 500 years old. The paper remains in good condition; however, much of the ink has faded and become unreadable. This object should be stored in a secure archive for safekeeping.

Description:

  • SCP-CN-003 is an "incantation" consisting of ██ syllables not matching any known language. The linguistic content, if any, of the sequence is unknown; however, it can be transcribed using the standard International Phonetic Alphabet and pronounced accordingly. The efficacy of such a pronunciation is unknown, but in three experiments, trained Class D personnel were able to activate the effect on their first attempt. In addition, testing has shown that all amnestic procedures that do not damage the cerebral cortex are incapable of removing memories related to the anomaly.
  • The effect of the object is that when the user (with a negative opinion) "thinks of" a target human and speaks the "incantation" and draws a certain simple figure ([REDACTED], not necessarily leaving a mark) on any material (including in mid-air), the target will, within 30 minutes, die of a random cause. The cause is not in any way linked to the "caster" or the "incantation" itself; the "incantation" does not affect non-human organisms. The effects and use of the anomaly are not entirely clear, but because of its properties, the Council and the [REDACTED] have voted not to continue testing and adopt a conservative and preventive approach to containment.
  • Based on all of the above, SCP-CN-003 is not the sole criterion for activating this "incantation", but is its key component. It is not yet confirmed whether other uncontained records of SCP-CN-003 exist, nor are there presently any feasible means to search for them on a large scale.
  • SCP-CN-003 was first discovered in a small village in ██████, which had not yet undergone modernization due to [REDACTED]. This village has already been cleared of residents and sealed by the Foundation.

"The O5 Council has privately discussed the common name for the anomaly, and proposed "Lilith's Curse", "Life-Stealing Curse", etc; in the end we settled on "Revealing Curse", because it reveals the dark side of the relations between humans; once it spreads into greater human society, humanity will enter into an endless era of chaos and distrust, and the survivors will only be able to live on with their agendas open for all to see."
