Observation Site-01, about to be completed

Special Containment Procedures: Observation Site-01 has been constructed at the edge of space, and Long-Term Observation Force LTF-Observateur-01 ("Observers") has been established and stationed within Observation Site-01. LTF-Observateur-01's mission is to use SCP-CN-2758-1 to observe outer space and report directly to O5-131. The activation of SCP-CN-2758-2 requires a full vote from the Overseer Council.

Observation Site-01 is a large-scale space station, with a main axis 4 km long. Its largest ring has a radius of 3 km. The space station is to remain within 10,000 km of SCP-CN-2758-2. The interior of the space station is equipped with the following:

  • SCP-CN-2758-1
  • SCP-CN-2758-2 Decryption Cabin Alpha2
  • Artificial gravity engine
  • Anti-material/zero-point/curvature engine
  • At least 1 million "Fluid Particle" units3

If the Overseers decide to activate SCP-CN-2758-2, Procedure-2758 is to be immediately activated and will proceed as follows:

  • O5 Council sends the order to activate Procedure-2758 to Observation Site-01. At this point, Observation Site-01 will begin to approach SCP-CN-2758-2 and send an acknowledgement to the O5 Council.
  • O5-1, O5-3 and O5-13 arrive at Observation Site-01. All "Fluid Particle" units are to make Level V combat preparations. Observation Site-01 is to approach SCP-CN-2758-2 is to approach SCP-CN-2758-2 to a distance of 10 km.
  • The three Overseers are to enter SCP-CN-2758-2 Decryption Cabin Alpha, which will then proceed towards to SCP-CN-2758-2. At this point, the artificial gravity engine is to be set to 100% capacity.
  • The above step concludes when SCP-CN-2758-2 Decryption Cabin Alpha returns. After this, the "All Clear" signal is to be sent to O5 Council and [DATA EXPUNGED]. This is the end of Procedure-2758.

Description: SCP-CN-2758 is the product of the "Hyperspacetime Project"4, lead by the Deduction Department and additionally involving the Conceptual Department, Department of Logic, and [DATA EXPUNGED].

SCP-CN-2758-1 is a cylindrical disc, 5 cm in radius and 0.5 cm thick. It is inscribed with the Foundation logo in red. When the object is touched by a human subject5, the human becomes capable of observing any point on the narrative stack, as well as understanding the concept of any object observed6. The object will also produced a continued electromagnetic pulse. Based on the Information Technology Department's analysis, these pulses include the pataphysical signature of the observed object. As such, SCP-CN-2758-1 has been linked to Observation Site-01's Main Observation Hall. This procedure allows SCP-CN-2758-1 to be used by a maximum of thirteen individuals at the same time to observe different objects.

SCP-CN-2758-2 is an anomalous mechanical facility "Transcendence Engine Array" at the edge of the current universe. Its purpose is unknown. In accordance with O5 order, all research on SCP-CN-2758-2 is prohibited.

Note: This is the first activation of SCP-CN-2758-1. The objective of this test was to confirm that SCP-CN-2758-1 is in fact capable of normal operation, and to confirm the superbrane theory of the Multiversal Research Department. As this activation relied on physical touch, the images produced by brain scanning may be inaccurate in parts.

<Begin Recording>

SCP-CN-2758-1 is activated. At the same time, the brain scanning device attached to Observer-01 begins to produce images through the perspective of Observer-01's eyes. Following this, the point of view begins to move backward, until the point of view exits Observation Site-01. At this point, the screen shows the full image of Observation Site-01. The point of view goes around Observation Site-01 once; the screen correctly shows details of Observation Site-01's exterior.

The screen proceeds towards the Site Director's Office of Observation Site-01, and slowly approaches Site Director C.A.'s shirt pocket, then passes through it, observing the memetic kill agent contained within. Observer-01 does not suffer any ill effects.

The point of view proceeds towards a Foundation site approximately 126 light years away, and approaches a database server. After five minutes entirely within the server, the point of view exits the server and continues to back away.

The point of view continues to back away, to the point that the entire universe is visible, and backs away further. At this point, the screen displays bright flashing spots and other meaningless images. According to the team of technological experts, neither the display nor the brain scanning device are malfunctioning; rather, the information from Observer-01's brain cannot be understood by the software. Five minutes later, the screen momentarily returns to displaying standard images; however, after this, the screen goes black and Observer-01 falls to the ground and it is determined that her heart has stopped.

<End Recording>

Postscript: Observer-01 was resuscitated with AED. Observer-01 stated that the memetic kill agent did not have any effect on them, and that she successfully viewed the contents of target Site's database. Upon being asked about the flashing spots, Observer-01 displayed agitation and requested to speak with O5-13.

Personnel: O5-13, Dr. Alvira Jones (Observer-01)

O5-13: Good morning, Alvira. Two days ago, you requested to meet with me, stating that you had highly classified information to report. Please, I would like to hear your report.

O5-13: But first, please allow me to remind you that the clearance level afforded to Observation Site-01's employees, as part of the "Hyperspacetime Project", are the same as mine with regards to this matter. As such, I don't understand why you refused all other means, including higher-dimensional transmission, and demanded to speak to me directly.

Alvira Jones: Because… because there are some things that may not be part of the project.

Alvira Jones: Have you seen the true form of the narrative stack with your own eyes?

O5-13: That is the reason the "All-Seeing Eye" was developed.

Alvira Jones: Two millennia ago, an author named Douglas Adams wrote a series called The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In that series, he described something called a "Universal Perspective Vortex"—

O5-13: Total Perspective Vortex. "To see even for a moment the infinite universe, and you, a microscopic speck in comparison." I have read this book, when the author was alive, even. I hope the reason you wished to see me was not simply to tell me the narrative stack is so immense and yourself so small. Get to the point, Doctor.

Alvira Jones: Alright. When I viewed the narrative stack from a higher angle, It looked like an infinitely tall stack, with myriad narratives above. Compared to It, the universe in which we exist is a minuscule speck—

O5-13: Which proves the sandwich narrative model right. Please continue.

Alvira Jones: The "All-Seeing Eye" helped me understand the image of the superbrane. As such, I believe that we should develop a mathematical modeling software capable of analyzing even higher dimensions, in order to understand the information conveyed directly by the "All-Seeing Eye".

Alvira Jones: After I calmed down a bit, I noticed that there was a particularly strange region of the narrative stack. I moved the point of view towards this region. And then…

At this point, Alvira Jones expresses a state of heightened panic and enters a trance.

O5-13: Are you okay? Do you need medical assistance?

Alvira Jones: (unrecognized mumbling)

Alvira Jones faints.

Postscript: Dr. Alvira Jones was sent to the medical bay, and her memories were transcribed and forwarded to members of the Conceptual and Memetics Departments involved with the "Hyperspacetime Project" for analysis. Following amnesticization, Alvira Jones was returned to her post. Multiple software applications to deal with higher-dimensional space and memetic hazards have been developed and installed on the supporting devices for SCP-CN-2758-1 in order to assist in the current investigations into the regions of space indicated by Dr. Jones.

Regarding Proposal for Neutralization of SCP-3812

Based on the warning reports provided by the Pataphysics Department and the Deduction Department, SCP-3812 attempted to ascend to the current narrative level approximately 3 days ago (Terminus Standard Time). The Pataphysics Department and Deduction Department have managed to temporarily contain SCP-3812 for 48 hours through the constant creation of narrative offsets. However, current manpower and resource limitations mean that the current containment procedures can only be sustained for a further 19 hours, after which SCP-3812 will destroy all dampening narrative offset layers and enter the current narrative level. As such the Pataphysics Department and the Deduction Department have produced a neutralization proposal for the object:
  • Create a meaningless narrative layer using the NULL Empty Narrative Generator10, and imbue these layers with the meaning "to neutralize SCP-3812"
  • Bring SCP-3812 into this narrative layer and use the Textual Effect Expansion Device11 to strengthen the meaningless narrative layer
  • Bring SCP-CN-1313-1 into this narrative layer and activate it

Based on the blueprints of the Textual Effect Expansion Device produced by the Pataphysics Department and Deduction Department, even if all energy contained within SCP-CN-1313-1 is released, there is a less than 10% chance that an XK/ΎK-Class "Dream Incident“ will occur. If the plan is put into action, one of the following results may occur:

  • SCP-3812 is destroyed; the energy generated by SCP-CN-1313-1 does not break through the narrative barrier of the meaningless narrative layer. If this ending occurs, the Ramsay-Ducasse Ethereal Energy and Akiva Radiation Control Devices should be activated in order to reclaim SCP-CN-1313-1.
  • SCP-3812 is destroyed and the barrier of the meaningless narrative layer is breached, causing an XK/ΎK-Class "Dream Incident" to occur. If this occurs, the UED Narrative Forking Drain12 will handle the disposal of the extraneous energy produced by SCP-CN-1313-1, while the Narrative Textual Anchor13 and Narrative Dissociator14 to prevent the XK/ΎK-Class "Dream Incident" from expanding further.
  • If SCP-3812 is not neutralized, one member of the Deduction Department, equipped with a Narrative Textual Anchor is to enter the meaningless narrative layers and use SCP-CN-1313-1 to pierce SCP-3812's heart. If this does not neutralize SCP-3812, a warning of a PK-Class "Conglomeration" Existential Pandemonium scenario is to be announced and Procedure-Alpha is to be carried out; the multiversal amalgamation procedure is to be activated.

According to the analysis provided by the K-Class Scenario Assessment Division, the threat caused by a PK-Class "Conglomeration" Existential Pandemonium scenario far exceeds that caused by a XK/ΎK-Class "Dream Incident"; if a PK-Class "Conglomeration" Existential Pandemonium scenario were to occur, the Foundation would lose the ability to complete its initial mission, which is to resist Unknown Entity-Alpha's power. As such, we believe that that the worst possible outcome of the above proposal is still preferable to allowing SCP-3812 to enter the current narrative.

Note: SCP-3812 Neutralization Attempt Log

[[00:00]]: Meaningless narratives constructed; SCP-CN-1313-1 is moved from Containment Chamber GA-Alpha-93-Q416 to Site-A-4-12-9。

[[00:10]]: Meaningless narrative layers defined. All devices ready.

[[00:15]]: SCP-3812 is drawn into the current narrative layer; textual effect maximizers activated.

[[00:16]]: SCP-3812 attempts to break through the narrative barrier, but fails due to the effect of the textual effect maximizers. After five minutes of failed attempts, one of the textual effect maximizers encounters an error, leading to the emergence of a weak spot in the narrative barrier. SCP-3812 begins to attack this weak spot.

[[00:25]]: SCP-CN-1313-1 is activated.

Immediately after SCP-CN-1313-1 is activated, all monitoring devices lose signal, and the Akiva radiation counters and narrative logic stability meters are rendered inoperable due to overload. All textual effect maximizers are activated, and one miniature black hole generator is activated in order to supply power to all involved devices. All Ramsay-Ducasse Ethereal Energy and Akiva Radiation Control Devices are activated, but are rendered ineffective due to overload. PK-Class "Conglomeration" Existential Pandemonium event and XK/ΎK-Class "Dream Incident" warning dispatch countdown starts.

[[01:03]]: Signal resumes. At this point, SCP-3812 appears to be a large glowing sphere; the narrative logic stability meter reading indicates that SCP-3812's current state does not allow for it to enter the next higher narrative layer. At the same time, all Ramsey-Ducasse devices disappear; it is thought that at this point SCP-CN-1313-1 has been neutralized.

[[01:04]]: An infinitely large space is constructed in the current narrative layer; its interior appears to be an ocean currently undergoing a storm. SCP-3812 transforms into a white glowing humanoid and floats approximately 10 m above the surface of the water; the light pierces the storm clouds and shines on SCP-3812's manifestation.

[[01:05]]: SCP-CN-1313-1 is retrieved. One "narrative/dimensional seam" is constructed and inserted into SCP-CN-1313's interior; following a short ritual, the Ramsey-Ducasse devices return to their original readings, and are redesignated SCP-CN-1313-1-Alpha.17

[[01:10]]: Deduction Department Senior Researcher Zhang Bofeng, wearing a Narrative Textual Anchor and holding SCP-CN-1313-1-Alpha, enters the containment narrative18. At this point, Researcher Zhang manifested a MRS-Ⅲ Absolute Exclusion HarnessSCP-5000, equipped with a large quantity of anomalous mechanisms and engraved with thaumaturgical markings.

[[01:11]]: Researcher Zhang approaches SCP-3812. While the environment within the space appears to be a stormy sea, any matter within the area covered by the Narrative Textual Anchor is replaced with a white floor.

[[01:12]]: SCP-3812 notices Researcher Zhang. At this point, at least 100,000 tungsten rods manifest and fall towards Researcher Zhang, while a lightning bolt with a voltage of over 30 GV arcs towards him. All the tungsten rods burn into ash upon entering a spherical region of radius 10 m centered on Researcher Zhang. At this point, the three-dimensional crystal lattice layer and six-dimensional crystal lattice layer slowly disappear, exposing the narrative/dimensional seam.

[[01:13]]: Researcher Zhang uses SCP-CN-1313-1-Alpha to impale SCP-3812. The surrounding environment slowly becomes transparent and disappears, leaving an infinitely large space with a white floor; a black Foundation logo has formed on the floor around Researcher Zhang and SCP-3812. SCP-3812 slowly returns to its appearance as Sam Howell. The activated SCP-CN-1313-1-Alpha pierces SCP-3812's heart; SCP-3812 is thought to be neutralized.

Postscript: Following the neutralization of SCP-3812, Researcher Zhang and SCP-CN-1313-1-Alpha were retrieved, and the narrative layer collapsed upon disabling the textual effect maximizers. SCP-CN-1313-1-Alpha was reclassified Apollyon/Thaumiel, and Researcher Zhang Bofeng was awarded the Foundation Star.

Note: Investigation into the mentioned Unknown Entity-Alpha is to begin immediately.

▽ Project "Wallbreak" (Archived) ▽

Project Overview: Project "Wallbreak" is an information gathering operation aiming to observe the universe in which GOI.Alpha.01 resides. The project involves using the remaining infrastructure left by Site-CN-06's Project Aidita to send a narrative probe into GOI.Alpha.01's narrative region. However, due to the unnatural self-protection mechanism of said narrative region, the project caused an XK-class end-of-the-world scenario as well as a partial ZK-λ-class "Universal Shatter" scenario.

[[00:00]]: Aidita Translocation Device Control System activated; narrative overwriting of the Project Aidita control system begins.

[[02:04]]: Narrative overwriting completed. Translocation device locked onto the narrative region in which GOI.Alpha.01 resides.

[[02:15]]: Probe Alpha ready for mission. Launch countdown set to five minutes.

[[02:20]]: Probe-Alpha launches. Upon entering the translocation device, connection to the probe is lost. Emergency manual control overrides and self-destruct switch do not return any response.

[[02:20]]: Probe-Alpha is ejected from the translocation device at 128 times the speed of light.

Postscript: The probe traveling at 128 times the speed of light damaged the spatio-temporal structure within a 5 million light year radius of Site-CN-06 and broke through the universe barrier. All Sites, Areas, personnel and contained objects in this region are considered lost. Based on the Information Management Department's statistics, the Foundation lost 452,359 facilities (including Sites, Areas, Observation Sites, and Exclusionary Sites), 98,563 Level 4 personnel, 799 Level 5 personnel, and three members of the O5 Council. One hour after the incident, the entire Foundation entered a Level VI Narrative Invasion Warning state. This region has been isolated; any cross-narrative incursion is to be reported to the Emergency Command.

Document A3: Retrieved from GOI.Alpha.01 deepwell archives. Content consists of an O5 Council meeting and operation log relating to the Primary Existential Threat "THE WORM".

Date: Terminus Standard Time 8733/03/23

Location: Universe A0002758, Terminus, Site-00, Foundation Central Command

Personnel Present:

  • All members of the Overseer Council
  • Foundation Tactical Strategy Committee Chair/Foundation Internal Security Department Head Ouyang Su
  • Multiversal/Internarrative Relations Department Head Aelita Vladimirovna Ogarkova
  • Extranarrative/Extramultiversal Threat Defense System Management Office Head Xu Yuandu
  • (Former) Universe A938183 Manager Tóth Mária

O5-1: Good afternoon, everyone. This meeting is meant to discuss whether Project Palisade, our defense against the Primary Existential Threat "THE WORM", has become outdated, and what can be done to replace it. I invite Dr. Xu Yuandu, head of the Extra-Narrative/Extra-Multiversal Threat Defense System Management Office, to speak about his proposal for a new approach to countering THE WORM.

Xu: Before I start explaining my plan, I'd like to bring up a few things. Last night, a narrative probe of unknown providence reached the edge of our narrative layer, seemingly from Universe A938183, which is under Director Tóth's management. What's interesting is that at this point, the Extra-Narrative/Extra-Multiversal Threat Defense System had just turned on, and this probe had crashed into its restricted testing area. The staff all thought it was an attack from THE WORM, so we sent it back at 128 times the speed of light. It wasn't until we looked at the narrative disruption data that we realized—

Short pause.

Xu: That the probe was sent from another Foundation from another narrative layer.

Note: Oh fuck you.

Tóth Mária: Correction: at the time, the defense system was on automatic mode, and was not being manually controlled by Dr. Xu's research staff. Please be more accurate to the truth in your report.

Xu: That isn't important. At most, it can just be an experiment record— (interrupted)

Ouyang: Why are you only reporting it now? Dr Xu, you have seriously underestimated the importance of this incident. Do you know what this means? The chance that a launched probe just happens to hit another narrative layer is effectively zero. That probe means that our existence has already been exposed to other narrative layers! I would like to reiterate my point of view, we should not be too impatient, and we should not try to lure in Unknown Threat-Alpha before we have made more than sufficient preparations.

Оgarkova: What I'm more interested is what the Overseers have done to make such a stir, to the point that Foundations from other narratives notice us. I do not doubt the current technology of the Foundation, but THE WORM is not all that far from us, and its next target may very well be us.

O5-6: Director Ouyang, Dr. Аelita, Manager Tóth, you are going off topic. Dr. Xu, please continue.

Xu: Director Ouyang is only thinking about the deeper meaning and effects behind this incident, and Dr. Aelita is only thinking of what could have drawn the attention of other Foundations. But everyone is sure that this incident has some meaning for us. Do you know just how small that probe was? According to the Extranarrative/Extramultiversal Threat Defense System's records, the total mass of that thing was less than 500 kilograms. That is tiny in comparison to the narrative region, Tóth; if in one of your universe's space cities, a citizen had an extra molecule of water in their morning drink, would you notice? Of course you yourself couldn't, but the Defense System can. The initial goal of the Defense System was to resist a direct attack from Unknown Threat-Alpha, which exists beyond the narrative stack and even beyond the terminal frontier, and in comparison THE WORM is merely a threat from the same goddamn narrative region. I believe this meeting is a waste of time, and so is Project Palisade. We're spending so much of our efforts and resources to prevent a "threat" that really poses no threat at all, when instead I say we should be putting that time and effort into countering Unknown Threat-Alpha. "The containment or suppression of Unknown Threat-Alpha is the Foundation's reason for existence/ultimate mission," you say, but repeating this without doing anything to achieve it is ultimately meaningless.

O5-3: I am personally very much in favor of using the Extranarrative/Extramultiversal Threat Defense System to protect against THE WORM, but there are a few problems relating to Project Palisade that we have not cleared up. For instance, the text here: "We affirm that we are the original, true Foundation. We represent mainline reality (the original, unaltered timeline). Our humanity must be held paramount over the humanity of any inhabitants of "mirror" timelines. The survival of mainline reality shall always be held paramount over the survival of any "mirror" timeline, or any other parallel or alternate universe. We are the Foundation, the bedrock on which all of reality rests. For the sake of us all, we cannot fail." There is much to doubt in these words. How can we confirm that we ourselves are not living in a mirror timeline? Is there a possibility that we are only a mirror of mainline reality, only believing that we live in mainline reality because of the way we were defined? And if we are merely a mirror timeline, why would we of our own volition terminate what we consider to be our own "Project Palisade"? And even worse, how do we know there isn't an "agent" or "collaborator" from the mainline universe here at this very meeting? What if Dr. Xu's goal here is to protect the real mainline reality by attracting THE WORM to our timeline, allowing this possibly-mirror timeline to live out its purpose?

Ouyang: Wait just a moment. O5-3, are you accusing Dr. Xu here of being that very "agent" or "collaborator"?

O5-3: Accusing? Oh, of course not.

While speaking, O5-3 directs their gaze at Tóth Mária while nodding their head. Ouyang nods in response.

Tóth Mária: I myself believe that Three's question— ack!

Ouyang retrieves a metal syringe from her shirt pocket and injects its contents into Tóth Mária's neck, emptying it into her bloodstream. He then removes the syringe and Tóth Mária falls over onto the ground.

Xu: What the—?

O5-1: Calm down, everyone. We've merely caught a spy — or should I say an "agent" from another timeline.

Ouyang: Which timeline are you from? Who are you working for? What is your goal? Tell me now, or I'll have to pry your mouth open myself. That shot was a muscle paralytic. Don't try to resist.

Tóth Mária: (silence)

Ouyang retrieves a "truth serum" memetic agent and places it in front of Tóth Mária's eyes, causes her to stand up stiffly and foam at the mouth.

Tóth Mária: (in monotone) I am an agent sent by the main timeline to destroy your timeline. Despite being but a product of Project Palisade, your technological level has far exceeded that of the main timeline. In order to maintain the operation of Project Palisade, I was dispatched to draw THE WORM to your timeline in order to destroy it.

Ouyang: That's enough. Take her away.

Ouyang: The information we extracted from that spy has already validated O5-3's suspicions; the timeline she came from believes itself to be the true "main timeline". And I believe that it is not only that timeline, but all mirror timelines, ours included, that believe themselves to be that true "main timeline", and that all other timelines are mirror timelines they have themselves created and sacrificed. My suggestion is that we immediately terminate Project Palisade and destroy all timelines created through it, which in a single blow will end this chaotic charade, and use our Extranarrative/Extramultiversal Threat Defense System to deal with THE WORM. If necessary, we could even use armed force to attack it.

O5-1: Director Ouyang, I don't quite understand the need to be so extreme, to the point that you seem to not comprehend what you are saying. Project Palisade has already constructed an innumerable amount of timelines, each of which has split countless times. You are suggesting to destroy all of them; do you not understand the ethical implications of— (interrupted)

O5-12: Ethical implications? One, do you not feel the slightest bit of shame when you say those words? Were you not the one to propose Project Palisade, to create myriad timelines for the sole purpose of being sacrificed to protect this "main timeline"? Do you believe that we haven't found out that you got the Internal Security Department to secretly deal with everyone who opposed your ideas? Tell me, where is the corpse of the Ethics Committee's director? Where the fuck did you hide him?!

Awkward silence.

O5-5: Forgot his meds?

O5-8: Seems like it.

O5-11 and O5-13 stand up to restrain O5-12 and force a pill into his mouth. O5-12 mumbles some vague statements before falling over onto the meeting table.

O5-1: He is the most senior Overseer at the table now. The previous O5-1 was a dictator who pushed him to insanity with his internal witch-hunts and cleansing. That was over eight thousand years ago. I feel bad for him.

O5-12 wakes up.

O5-12: …What happened? Did I go off on one of you again?

O5-1: Yes, me. Remember your medication next time.

Ouyang: The previous O5 Council handled Foundation policy like a tyrant, but you all are too gentle to make the necessary sacrifices. O5-1, I believe that the current main goal of the Foundation is, after self-preservation, to contain or suppress Unknown Threat-Alpha. This relates to the safety of the "superstructure", and the superstructure supports myriad narrative stacks, narrative layers, multiverses, dimensions, timelines… Compared to this, the timelines produced by Project Palisade are nothing. Are you going to threaten the world over the safety of an ant? I know that we are merely ordinary people who cannot make such choices. But a power from the highest narrative layer has pushed us to where we are now, and we must think of this problem more logically, and make the right choice.

Note: What's a "superstructure"?

O5-13: We've discussed enough, I trust that everyone has their own thoughts. Let's begin the vote. Option A is to continue as is; Option B is to terminate Project Palisade and destroy all relevant timelines, and then activate the Defense System.

O5-2: Wait a moment, are we really the so-called "mainline reality"?

Ogarkova: I believe I can explain this from a pataphysical perspective. While I cannot stand outside the "superstructure" and see what lies later in the story, but based on the prior turns of events, the "highest narrative layer" that lies above concepts like "superstructure" and "normalcy" seems to have written us as the true "mainline reality" — or our narrative logic may not make sense.

O5-13: Let us begin voting.

Afterword: Following the end of this conference, Project Palisade was terminated, and the timelines created as a result were destroyed. Following many attacks on Primary Existential Threat "THE WORM", it was completely destroyed by an attack from the Extranarrative/Extramultiversal Threat Defense System's countermeasures devices. THE WORM has been declared neutralized, and all relevant documents have been archived.

Note: Looks like we can also stop with Project Palisade. Further reconnaissance is to focus on information relating to the keywords "Unknown Entity-Alpha" and the "superstructure".

Why have we not ascended?
— O5 Command's response to some of the current major debates at base

To all citizens, employees, and builders of the Base:

"Why have we not ascended?" This question has reverberated through the canteens, production departments, and even mass housing blocks of every space-city in Base for a long time. From elders of over three hundred years to children who have not yet completed their sixteen years of education, it seems that each individual has a different view on this topic. "Why have we not joined together and formed a hivemind?" say the followers of WAN; "The network will only lead us to ruin!" reply the grinding gears. "This is a shameful plot by the O5 Council!" the progressives and opposition shout; "This is a left deviation!" the conservatives condescendingly retort. This chaos of countless opinions has even led to the emergence of separatist extremist organizations. The flames of the large-scale conflict in Universe R7362941 last year was fanned by such extremist organizations.

It's ridiculous and ironic that such an issue, which merely concerns technology, could be used by extremist groups against the government. As such, the O5 Council and all subordinate departments have produced this response:

As everyone knows, the Base was founded for the sole purpose of containing or suppressing Unknown Threat-Alpha. This target is the very reason the Foundation exists. As such, every single one of the O5 Council's decisions is made with the containment or suppression of Unknown Threat-Alpha as its primary concern, and rejecting ascension is an important part of this goal. Humans are merely organisms that live in three-dimensional space, and all of our power comes from anomalous technology, the products of our wisdom and sweat. Scranton Reality Anchors, Pietrykau-Fontaine Spatial Stabilization Arrays, the WAN that the Maxwellists worship, these anomalous technologies are a sort of marker; they link our reality, which we are able to understand, with empty, ethereal concepts, like "concepts", "dimensions", "time", "space", and even "narratives". With the Foundation's current level of technology, if we were to activate the Ascension Program now, the best outcome is only for the wole Foundation to become such a conceptual entity, but Unknown Threat-Alpha is a hostile threat originating outside the narrative stack — even if we were to ascend, it would have no effect on Unknown Threat-Alpha.

"Only through putting it into practice can we verify its truth" — waving theories around will not convince anyone. In order to prove the above point, we have constructed a mirror of the Base, which is identical to ours in its history and development. On 8733/01/01 Terminus Standard Time, we altered their development, putting them onto a course towards ascension. They have transcended concepts, transcended pataphysics, even — they have become the manifestation of the concept of "Secure, Contain, Protect". But after a time too short to measure, they collapsed, their existence completely erased from the narrative stack, because after ascending they lost their control over the narrative. The anomalous technology that once served as their means to control the narrative was lost, and after these devices stopped functioning, they were swept away by narrative turbulence, full of the malice of the highest narrative layer, without that technology to help them.

The information obtained by Deduction Department in their investigations into the "superstructure" indicates that Unknown Threat-Alpha is intensifying its influence on the narrative stack within the superstructure. In order to protect the countless souls on each layer of the narrative stack within the "superstructure", we have decided to carry out the neutralization of Unknown Threat-Alpha. In this critical period, O5 Command refuses to allow any forces seeking to create an ideological split in the Base to continue their machinations. From today onward, police operations within the Base will be intensified. Dearest citizens, please remain calm and maintain reason.

Document A6: Retrieved from GOI.Alpha.01 deepwell archives. Content consists of an O5 Council meeting relating to the neutralization of "Unknown Threat-Alpha"

Date: Terminal Standard Time 8733/09/21

Location: Universe A0002758, Earth

Personnel Present:

  • All members of the Overseer Council
  • Foundation Tactical Strategy Committee Chair/Foundation Internal Security Department Head Ouyang Su
  • Multiversal/Internarrative Relations Department Head Aelita Vladimirovna Ogarkova
  • Deduction Department Head Veleafer and other Deduction Department personnel
  • Department of Tactical Theology Head Weng Wan
  • Mobile Task Force Alpha-1 ("Right Red Hand"), Internal Affairs Department Special Security Team

Five Foundation armed shuttles gently land on the ground, melting the accumulated snow on the ground with their heat. A line of personnel jump down from the shuttles, and three flying cars are released from the shuttles' bays.

Ouyang: How did the Deduction Department do this… was it really necessary to come to a place like this to meet? It's bloody cold here.

O5-5: I daresay the view here is something you can only find in this part of the Base. Perhaps this place may be the last planet left in the entire narrative region/

Veleafer: This is where the SCP Foundation originated, and where humanity originated as well. That's why it was preserved. But we didn't come here to see the view — we came here to find the first Foundation site. I recall it was designated Site-19.

O5-12: (swallowing a pill) It doesn't fit our modern Site naming conventions, does it?

O5-2: At the time, the Foundation only had this singular planet. They wouldn't have thought that the Foundation would have united the entire narrative layer hundreds of millions of years later.

Ouyang: If not for Unknown Threat-Alpha, we wouldn't have gone so far as to unite the entire narrative layer, or carry out any such "standardization", destroying all sorts of celestial bodies to establish space cities. If only there were some variation. All the space cities look the same. Not a bit of personality in them.

O5-1: After we destroy Unknown Threat-Alpha, the Foundation will make restoring the natural environment its new main goal. The fruits of that labor may not be for our generation to see, but we trust that the day will come for our descendants.

Alpha-1-1: We have located Site-19; its location is about 3510 km from here.

O5-1: Let's go.

A line of people boards the flying cars and sets off for Site-19's ruins.

O5-1: Ouyang, before this meeting begins, I'd like to confirm a few things. How has martial law in the Base been going?

Ouyang: The First and Third Terminus Brigades have taken control of the whole of the universe we're in; the Military Committee has already taken control of all other universes, and all universes that refused the takeover have had their material resources extracted and the universes terminated. In addition, the Internal Security Department has embedded elite covert units in various armies and military councils.

Ouyang: (quietly) Overseer, are you sure there are extremists in the Deduction Department?

O5-1: There are reports saying some members of the Deduction Department want to trigger an 2165K "Anomalous Collapse" scenario, and the Council has determined that this solution would not work in the first place. However, because of Three's speculation about how a 2165-K scenario would be triggered, we're executing everyone who puts forward a proposal with anything like that for crimes against humanity, just to be safe.

O5-1: I still don't want to believe Three's guesses — they're far too extreme.

Ouyang: But hasn't SCP-2165 already—

O5-1: I wish I knew, too.

All personnel reach Site-19. Its gate is in poor condition.

O5-4: Looks like some sort of conceptually locked material. The door wouldn't have lasted this long otherwise.

Ogarkova: Why's it gotten hot in here again? I prefer the space cities, honestly.

O5-7: You'll have to ask the History Department or the Archival Committee about that. They've got geography textbooks from millions of years ago that explain temperature differences between different regions of this planet.

O5-4 kicks open the front gate.

O5-4: It's a miracle this ancient building hasn't fallen over. I guess this region was wrapped in time-stop film after humanity abandoned the Earth.

O5-1: Who knows.

All personnel enter a meeting room on the top floor of Site-19, sitting as they wish.

O5-1: (cough) Wonderful. After that journey, (cough) we've finally reached (cough) our meeting place. Fucking hell, there's so much dust here. Does anyone have a vacuum cleaner?

A pocket vacuum cleaner is turned on.

O5-1: Much better. Anyway, in this meeting, the O5 Council would like to hear the Deduction Department's proposal for neutralizing Unknown Threat-Alpha. I'd like Veleafer, head of the Deduction Department, to speak.

Veleafer: Good morning, everyone. According to research on Unknown Threat-Alpha carried out by the Deduction Department, we can confirm some of its properties. Before we begin, does anyone here have any knowledge about the "superstructure"?

O5-12: Please, elaborate.

Veleafer: Imagine an infinitely large hall, which is supported by an infinite number of pillars. This hall is the "superstructure", and the pillars are "narrative stacks". This is the essence of the "superstructure" — the ultimate structure, comprising billions and billions of narrative stacks.

Veleafer: Unknown Threat-Alpha is like a giant rodent that lives in this hall, sustaining itself by chewing on the pillars. This is the nature of Unknown Threat-Alpha, a parasite feeding on narrative stacks. What's unfortunate is that we are unable to even deal with these parasites.

O5-1: And your proposal is?

Veleafer: Based on the Deduction Department and Department of Tactical Theology's research into SCP-CN-2510, we are sure that inducing a 2165K "Anomalous Collapse" scenario is capable of completely neutralizing Unknown Threat-Alpha. We believe this to be the only effective method.

O5-3: Fuck.

Weng Wan: Question: SCP-2165 is a scenario in which all known or unknown anomalies caused by the fall of normalcy itself are neutralized, causing a "reset" effect. Based on the SCP-CN-2510 document retrieved from SCP-173's chamber, SCP-2165 has already been completely destroyed by this "reset" long ago. If there is no SCP-2165 left in reality, how are you going to trigger a 2165K scenario?

Veleafer retrieves a cylindrical device from his jumpsuit pocket and activates it.

Veleafer: This is a Revolt-Narrate Anti-Metanarrative Textual Oblivion Protection Array. It is capable of isolating higher-narrative manipulation. We trigger a 2165K scenario by raising the entire Deduction Department's PDT-Information Cognition to the higher narrative, then converting all higher narratives' RTT-information reprints into stories. In other words, we will raise the entire Deduction Department to the higher narrative, then pull all higher narratives into the lower narrative. Then, we activate the 2165K scenario in the Alpha layer.

Ogarkova: Question. Are you always located in the higher narrative layer, or are you still in the same narrative as us?

Veleafer: The latter.

O5-1: Do it.

Six Narrative Textual Anchors activate. Mobile Task Force Alpha-1 ("Red Right Hand") and Internal Affairs Department security personnel lock down the meeting room and suppress all Deduction Department personnel.

O5-1: You've been in the Foundation for so long, so you must know that our attitude towards "。"19, and specifically KSN20 has always been kill on sight.

Ouyang: Don't try to deny it. We found enough proof in your office.

Veleafer: I have never tried to deny it. Would I have used “。”'s words to describe how we intended to trigger a 2165K event if I wanted to deny it? But I must stress again that only through a 2165K event can we completely neutralize Unknown Threat-Alpha.

O5-3: Enough nonsense, Take them away.

Ogarkova: Wait a moment; I still have one question. A 2165K event involves all anomalies, discovered or not, being neutralized and the world being restarted. But… is Unknown Threat-Alpha really included in this definition of "anomaly"?

Veleafer: Whether or not it is anomalous is not up to the Foundation to decide. There is no normalcy or abnormalcy, merely metanormalcy. It contains everything — not just this narrative layer, but the entire narrative stack — the entire "SCP Foundation setting" and everything within it. As long as Unknown Threat-Alpha can be understood by us, it is, in a way, part of metanormalcy. O5-1, we have built in Universe [REDACTED] a "Transcendence Engine Array", a large-scale meta-level reality transfer elevator, which has sufficient energy to complete a single PDT-Information Cognition raising and send that character to the Alpha layer. Bring it to Site-00. You will need it someday.

O5-1: Take them away. Dr. Aelita, please work with Pataphysics Department Head Penelope Panagiotopolous, and lead your team to collect the information left behind by the Deduction Department and continue work. I want a feasible neutralization plan for Unknown Threat-Alpha in four months' time.

O5-1: Tell the External Affairs Department to prepare for integration of Universe [REDACTED] into the Base.

Note: Fuck me.

Document A7: Meeting log. Edited by the Archival Committee.

Date: Terminus Standard Time 8733/11/29

Location: Universe A0002758, Terminus, Site-00, Foundation Central Command

Personnel Present:

  • All members of the Overseer Council
  • Foundation Tactical Strategy Committee Chair/Foundation Internal Security Department Head Ouyang Su
  • Multiversal/Internarrative Relations Department Head Aelita Vladimirovna Ogarkova
  • Pataphysics Department Head Penelope Panagiotopolous

O5-1: Good morning, everyone. Dr. Aelita Vladimirovna Ogarkova has requested that the Overseer Council hear the proposal for neutralization of Unknown Threat-Alpha drafted by the Multiversal/Internarrative Relations Department and the Pataphysics Department. Dr. Aelita, please begin.

Ogarkova: Based on our analysis of the information left behind by the Deduction Department — the theoretical data they analyzed could fill a warehouse if we printed it out — we have a total of three methods of neutralizing Unknown Threat-Alpha.

Ogarkova: Proposal one: Trigger a 2165K scenario. This method can completely neutralize Unknown Threat-Alpha, and is guaranteed not to fail. The price is all the content in the entire SCP Foundation setting. This method also requires the "Transcendence Engine Array", which is incomplete.

O5-1: Denied — the Base cannot sustain such a price. Anyone disagree?

Silence.

O5-1: Continue.

Ogarkova: Proposal two: Based on our research, we've discovered that Unknown Threat-Alpha does not have unlimited strength — it needs to consume narrative stacks in order to increase its own strength. As such, if we were to sufficiently stabilize our current narrative layer before luring in Unknown Threat-Alpha, it might be possible to exhaust Unknown Threat-Alpha's power before the current narrative stack collapses, after which it will be neutralized. However, this method is incredibly risky, and we don't know just how strong Unknown Threat-Alpha is after destroying so many narrative stacks. And if we fail… that's the final destruction.

Silence.

O5-1: And the third option?

Ogarkova retrieves a spear from a portable box.

Panagiotopolous: To kill our gods.

Ogarkova: Proposal three: One member of personnel uses the "Transcendence Engine Array" to reach the Alpha layer, and uses the material Spear of Longinus to kill the author and take their narrative editing authority. This is the riskiest proposal.

O5-3: Does anyone have any questions?

Silence.

O5-13: Then let's start voting.

Many operators are sitting at their respective seats, performing the final adjustments to the equipment. The progress bar representing the completion of the narrative structure reinforcement process remains motionless on the main screen of the hall.

Operator-01: The neutralization process will begin in two hours. Prepare the system self-test.

O5-3: Dr. Penelope, please explain the specific principles of your plan.

O5-6: But we're all a bunch of old geezers, so we might not be able to understand theories that touch on advanced pataphysics principles. (laughs)

Panagiotopolous: If we were to expain everything in detail, it would be difficult to understand. But in layman's terms, this is just a war of attrition. On one side we have Unknown Threat-Alpha, and on the other side the entire narrative stack where we and the Base are located. Unknown Threat-Alpha attacks narrative stacks by consuming the narrative logic that supports the stack, and what we need to do is to strengthen that logic using Narrative Logic Anchors.

Operator-01: System self-test complete. Response speed normal. All Revert-Page-Revision Narrative Logic Anchor Arrays beginning self-test.

Penelope Panagiotopolous: The Revert-Page-Revision Narrative Logic Anchor Array is really just Narrative Logic Anchors arranged in groups of 1024. We've probably made… probably billions of them by now? I don't remember any more.

Operator-01: Revert-Page-Revision Narrative Logic Anchor Array self-test complete. A total of 6.34×1012 anchors are in use, of which three have not responded. All RefuseToEdit-type Anti-Narrative-Alteration Anchors beginning self-test.

Penelope Panagiotopolous: Alright, just over six trillion. In short, we put these things into every corner of the entire narrative stack. Until now, I don't understand how this thing relaly works. It was all built by our technicians based on the drawings left behind by the Deduction Department. It's brilliant, it doesn't even require any external energy source to run.

Operator-01: All self-tests complete. Preparations complete.

O5-1: You're cleared for activation.

Some operators inject adrenaline to temporarily increase their physical strength.

Operator-01: "Beacon" prepared for activation. T minus ten seconds.

Operator-01: T minus five seconds.

Operator-01: Three.

Operator-01: Two.

Operator-01: One.

<Begin Recording>

[[00:00]]: "Beacon" activated. All devices active.

[[00:10]]: Unknown Entity-Alpha begins to attack the current narrative layer.

[[00:15]]: Narrative logic stability remains stable. Situation enters a stalemate.

O5-6: Once Unknown Entity-Alpha is neutralized, what will you all do?

O5-1: I'll start by returning the universe to its original state, of course, reshaping the original galaxies and star systems and demoliishing the extraneous space cities. Universes that desire autonomy will be allowed to leave the Base, provided they agree not to attack other universes.

O5-12: I think I'll quit my job and get treatment for my condition. If this disease can't be cured, please ask One to find me a villa near a sea. Preferably one where I can have a little farm.

Ouyang: I always thought—

All lights in the hall turn red, and alarm bells begin to ring. The main screen displays an error message, and half of the information terminals in front of the operators display the blue screen of death.

Ouyang: What's going on?

Operator-01: Commander, the main control system is overloaded and over 300,000 RPR arrays have been damaged. We are trying to find a way to restart the system.

We are about to break through the narrative stack.

The sculpture. A flash of light.

Transcendence protocol complete. Transcendence engine array disabled.
You are now at the Alpha narrative layer.

Ouyang Su curled up on the floor, letting the heavy rain soak her clothes. Her brain could not processs the infinite waves of information brought by narrative fragmentation. She placed her hands to her neck; the data processor, compiled from parts of WAN's source code, did not respond. She rased her head, still spinning from the narrative collapse, and saw a spear on the ground, glimmering in the pouring rain.

Hello, Ouyang Su. I've been waiting for you for a very long time.

Who are you?

She raised her head. A young man, wearing a translucent blue raincoat, was standing a few steps away.

I am your creator.

Based on the script, you are going to kill me, but I will find a way out for you.

Is this the Alpha layer?

This is Alpha-1. The so-called "pseudo-author narrative".

I was the one who wrote the beginning of the story, but I cannot predict how it will end. The very fact that you are here is the work of an even higher power, controlling all of this.

But what happened?

The Base — or the Foundation — crossed that red line. In the end, they died because of their mistake. Your conjectures about the true nature of the Spear of Aeglos were completely wrong. It is not a parasite; rather, it is an ultimate weapon that can destroy anything. Which is to say, the absolute restraints placed on a lower narrative by a higher; it is the reason that a lower narrative cannot "kill their gods".

I kmust say, your Foundation has successfully utilized a hole in the Spear of Aeglos — you hid yourselves very well; you even resisted it for a few moments. But unfortunately, when you strike like that, you also reveal where you are. The spotlight is cast on the protagonist of the story, and the audience becomes aware of their presence.

Which is to say, Unknown Threat-Alpha — what you call the Spear of Aeglos — is an entity that restricts the Foundation's development? What is its purpose for existence?

What do you think? Don't forget that motto — "killing our gods". Did you notice that the Foundation responsible for Project Longinus has long been wiped from existence? That is why the Spear of Alpha exists.

We merely want to protect ourselves.

She gripped the body of the spear, which had lay on the roadside, glimmering in the neon lights of the street. She reached out and grabbed the young man's collar, pointing the tip of the spear at his neck.

Let's talk about that "way out" you mentioned.

The story is once again pushed forward. You don't fit the tone of this city's narrative.

Even if the highest narrative wills it, I don't think it's possible for you to kill me.

Why not? Let me guess, if I kill you, the narrative will be terminated, right? That's no matter; the Base no longer exists anyway. You killed it, you and your spear of Alpha. The protagonist has already exited stage right, and it's about time the curtain fell. There is no need to keep flipping through the script — there is nothing left beyond the last page.

The protagonist has not left the stage.

And why do you say that?

If it had, this part of the plot would be meaningless to the highest narrative.

Then, tell me the meaning of that thing's existence.

The spear of Alpha — what you refer to as "Unknown Threat-Alpha" — is a line running through the entire story. If it didn't exist, the whole story would be meaningless. And I, as the "pseudo-author", though unable to delete the Spear of Aeglos, am still able to rebuild the Base. The Base can thus continue to exist, without ever touching that red line.

And what do you ask for in exchange?

Stop doing needless things. Stop trying to "kill your gods" needlessly.

The point of the spear danced in front of the young man's neck, searching for a good angle. It tore open his skin, and words, narrative, and logic flowed out of the wound. The spear absorbed his blood, rife with stories, and its glory began to shine.

Is this the choice you have made?

I'm sorry.

The Spear of Longinus fell from her hands.

I hope you can stay true to your promise.

Tell your colleagues and the highest narrative… to be kind to the characters you write.

The highest narrative has always had its eyes on you, Su.

The curtain once again rises, and the way out is clear. You only need to follow it.

Has the first step succeeded?

Yes. Even though we've lost Longinus, we've obtained the much stronger Spear of Aeglos.

Before this, I must remind you as the "fuse": the side effects of arbitrarily tampering with the basic order of the world cannot be resolved by the Foundation.

I understand that. That's why we're only weaponizing the Spear of Aeglos after the "Annihilation Pointer" is complete.

That would be the highlight of the show.

Perhaps.
