A "performance" incident in progress

Item #: SCP-CN-2918

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: It is currently considered impossible to contain SCP-CN-2918; containment currently consists of following the object and erasing its effects.

Tracking and following of SCP-CN-2918 is to be done by Mobile Task Force 丙申-17 "Sleeping with the Rain"; when a "performance" event occurs, the nearest Site is to be notified.

Once a "performance" event occurs, the relevant Site is to prepare a cover story and amnesticize all affected individuals.

Description: SCP-CN-2918 is a raincloud suspected to possess a degree of intelligence and autonomy. As there are no means available to communicate with SCP-CN-2918, it is currently impossible to determine the level of intelligence it possesses.

SCP-CN-2918 is capable of causing rainfall; rainfall caused by SCP-CN-2918 is a "performance" event.

When a "performance" event occurs, all sound other than the sound of rainfall within the affected area will be reduced in intensity to under 10 dB. The sound of rain caused during a "performance" event is described as "full of rhythm" and "exceedingly pleasant". A "performance" event typically fulfills the following criteria:

  • Centered on a highly modern city, typically with a population of over 500,000;
  • Occurs at night or in the morning;
  • Lasts no more than 1 hour, with no more than 10mm of precipitation induced.

Since SCP-CN-2918 was discovered, 392 "performance" events have occurred; of those, approximately 56% appear to have played a very similar melody to an existing composition at some point during their course1. The genres of these melodies vary; however, some of these melodies are anomalies contained by the Foundation.

In the one month following a "performance" event, the suicide rate in the affected area will dramatically decrease. The exact details of the connection are currently unknown.
