Item #: SCP-CN-2988

Object Class: Safe - Thaumiel

Special Containment Procedures: The Foundation has already established containment of SCP-CN-2988 at its original location. The object's containment is managed by Site-CN-91. Currently, the external glass and elevator door of the object's location have been completely sealed under the pretense of "elevator maintenance".

As the object's containment is strongly related to the containment of [REDACTED], extreme precautions must be made to avoid containment breaches from affecting the object; all auditory hallucinations reported as a result of the anomaly should be ignored. In reality, these auditory hallucinations are a great benefit to containment, and should be maximized as much as possible.

In addition, please understand the following before reading through the description of the object: The mall the object is located began construction on 2013/08/11; its design and following operation were non-anomalous. However, on 2021/01/01, the object's anomalous properties manifested for the first time; it is unknown what caused the anomaly to manifest. The person who initially discovered the anomaly has been interrogated and subsequently amnesticized and released. Following this, SCP-CN-2988 has entered Foundation containment. The mall's 7th floor does not contain any anomalous installations; however, during every test, SCP-2988 has not appeared to open the door upon reaching the 7th floor.

Description: SCP-CN-2988 is a glass-walled elevator within the [REDACTED] shopping mall in ███████, █████. The object is capable of normal functioning even when not supplied with electricity, and can move between the 1st and 7th floors. Testing has shown that personnel are unable to damage or cover its internal walls. The object's external appearance is non-anomalous, with the exception of the claw marks on the walls caused by [REDACTED].

When a human subject (designated SCP-CN-2988-1) enters the elevator from the ground floor and presses the button for the 7th floor, the object will manifest its anomalous properties. The elevator will stop at each floor; at each floor, anomalous humanoids will enter the elevator and attempt to stop SCP-CN-2988-1 from reaching the 7th floor for various reasons. The Foundation has been unable to track the origin of these humanoid instances. In addition, in some cases, as the elevator progresses upward, there is an increasing chance of secondary anomalies occurring; the recorded anomalies are mostlyrelated to the themes of uncertainty, harm, sadness and disappearance.

Testing has shown that when SCP-CN-2988 is in the process of movement, personnel are unable to interfere with it from the outside. If at any point a person decides to leave, SCP-CN-2988 will use anomalous means to return to hte lowest floor; the unknown anomalous humanoids within will also instantaneously disappear. If the person decides to remain within the lift until it reaches the 7th floor, a series of anomalous incidents will occur. In addition to the abovementioned anomalies, the interior of the object will irregularly produce constant, high-frequency, high-volume screaming of unknown source; however, analysis results suggest that they are from [REDACTED]. Of the personnel who decide to leave the elevator, 96% report auditory hallucinations of screaming. Based on brainwave scanning and memetic analysis, it has been determined that these two sounds are identical.

In addition, following thermal imaging analysis, the following entities have manifested in SCP-CN-2988's interior (excerpt):

  • Foundation researchers. These researchers appear fatigued, carrying [REDACTED] on their clothes. [REDACTED] is installed in their brains to prevent the effects of [REDACTED]. They appear inside the [REDACTED] roster, and have been previously assigned to protect the [REDACTED] on the 7th floor;
  • A large number of anomalous entities contained by the Foundation, including SCP-CN-232-B, SCP-CN-2515SCP-CN-820-1, SCP-█, SCP-1548-1, SCP-4400-América, SCP-4373-1, etc;
  • Slightly distorted humanoid entities lying on the floor; their identity is unknown, and it has been discovered that these entities continuously produce high-volume screaming;
  • A set of ineffective containment procedures, which floated into SCP-CN-2988 dring the 29th experiment. Contents relate to [DATA EXPUNGED].
  • Ears, which are now shaking and bleeding. Inexplicably, they have no hosts.
  • Strange items. Probably a secondary anomaly of the object. Possibly produced inadvertently by [REDACTED] in containment.
  • A severed limb. Wounds have clotted. The object's research head, Abe Slane, made the following comment upon discovering the object: "It's hard to believe the [REDACTED] would do this when trying to escape its prison. It is believed that the [REDACTED] was forced to heal the wound by the effects of [DATA EXPUNGED]. Containment has been strengthened;
  • Non-anomalous shoppers. [REDACTED], they should not manifest inside the object. They should be a side effect of [REDACTED].
  • Constant vigilance. [REDACTED] does not have a physical body. The [REDACTED] have noticed its presence and attempted to make contact; however, this attempt has failed. Vigilance is to be maintained.

In order to ensure the continuity of [REDACTED] containment, this object is to be contained perfectly.

UPDATE: Containment has failed
