Item #: SCP-ES-057

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-ES-057 is mounted vertically inside a special chamber at Site 34, designated "Chamber 34-57", in order to allow for easier and faster transportation or escape in an extreme emergency situation. Outside of these cases, a Level 4 clearance researcher must grant authorization to use it.

Description: SCP-ES-057 is a ██████ brand doorknob made of an aluminum-bronze alloy. It shows minor wear on its surface, indicating that it has been used on multiple occasions in the past.

When a person turns SCP-ES-057 and returns it to its normal position, about three seconds later SCP-ES-057 starts to rotate in the opposite direction, at a speed close to that of light. If the subject's hand was in contact with SCP-ES-057 at the time, it will move along with it, unaffected by any physical forces, whether air friction or contact with solid objects, which are simply passed through, or the very centrifugal force that SCP-ES-057 causes. If no hands are used or it is in contact with another part of the body, SCP-ES-057 will not rotate. Furthermore, touching it while it is rotating will cause SCP-ES-057 to stop abruptly.

After rotating for five seconds, SCP-ES-057 stops abruptly. The subject then disappears and reappears 1054 kilometers away from SCP-ES-057, as a result of the rotational force. The direction depends on the position of SCP-ES-057 and which hand is used to turn it: the subject moves on its own vertical axis if SCP-ES-057 is in a horizontal position, or on its horizontal axis if it is in a vertical position; forwards or upwards if the right hand is used to rotate SCP-ES-057, backwards or downwards if the left hand is used; it always depends on the user's position. The translation is almost instantaneous and is not affected by any physical obstacles. It is unknown how the user of SCP-ES-057 can survive this displacement.

SCP-ES-057 can be turned several times, and the effect will be activated three seconds after the last turn. In this case, the distance traveled is 1054n, being n the number of times SCP-ES-057 was turned.

Test Log-ES-057:

Test-ES-057-1
Procedure: SCP-ES-057 is positioned horizontally. A Class-D equipped with a tracking device is instructed to turn it once with his right hand.
Result: The subject's signal reappears in the lower exosphere.

Test-ES-057-2
Procedure: SCP-ES-057 is positioned horizontally. A Class-D equipped with a tracking device is instructed to turn it once with his left hand.
Result: The tracker's signal disappears as soon as SCP-ES-057 finishes rotating.

Test-ES-057-3
Procedure: SCP-ES-057 is positioned horizontally. A Class-D equipped with a tracking device is instructed to turn it twice with his right hand.
Result: The subject's signal disappears, however, three days later Foundation satellites locate the tracker's signal near Saturn's orbit.

Test-ES-057-4:
Procedure: SCP-ES-057 is positioned vertically. A Class-D equipped with a tracking device is instructed to turn it once.
Result: Subject reappears in the city of ██████, ██████████.
Apparently, when SCP-ES-057 is positioned vertically on a planet, the translation takes a geodesic shape on the planet's surface. The interesting thing is that this city is 200 meters above sea level, and yet SCP-ES-057 ignored it, placing the subject on the surface. It is possible that the creation of SCP-ES-057, if it was really created by someone or something, may have been intended to move across the surface of Earth or other planets.

Test-ES-057-5:
Procedure: SCP-ES-057 is positioned horizontally. A Class-D equipped with a tracking device is instructed to turn it 50 times with his right hand, in order to make the subject go "around" the known universe and observe if he returns to the point of origin.
Result: [DATA EXPUNGED]
We should not have done that. We have trespassed a barrier that we never should have thought of even trying to overcome. The only thing we can do is hope that it doesn't get worse before we manage to fix it. I have notified the O5 Command and from now on SCP-ES-057 will be at Site 34 for transportation purposes strictly on an emergency basis. From now on, testing SCP-ES-057 is forbidden.
