Presentation
It's time to grab the pickaxes and light the lanterns, because the second contest of 2021 has the theme: subterranean! Chosen as the winning theme by you in the poll a few days ago. But what do we mean by subterranean? The Royal Spanish Academy defines it as "that which is below ground", not to be confused with submarine. It can be some Foundation Site, a city below ground, maybe even buried knowledge, events related to being buried alive, some unfortunate person in a facility deep underground, etc. It can also be underground trains, creatures or phenomena related to the depths of our world; if you have any doubts, you can check this link with all the articles related to this theme.
Find out what layer below the ground gives you the best place to work on your articles! And continue reading this page to find out the complete contest information, rules and more.
Information
This time it will be a contest divided into categories. The first one will be the individual category, so it is not necessary to sign up or mention your participation in the discussion. For the second category, teams of three people will participate, and the organization and formation of these teams will be up to you; the team's articles must be related to each other: whether they tell a story, have something in common (locations, people, objects, etc.), or whether they are a single continuous story, directly or indirectly.
Entries can consist of GoI Formats, SCPs or Tales for both categories, although teams can earn more points if they manage to post certain combinations, which are explained in the Bonuses and Optional Collaborations Section.
Then the participants of the team category will need to post the details of their team in the discussion of this page with the following format:

Rules
All contestants must adhere to the theme of the contest and keep the following points in mind when participating:
- Each team is limited to 3 main entries, plus one optional collaboration.
- This collaboration will not be considered for bonuses.
- Coldposting is not allowed, articles are subject to standard posting and deletion rules.
- Posted articles are to be tagged "subterranean-con-2021".
- Articles that do not relate to the theme will be disqualified. The author will have the opportunity to submit another entry that does qualify for the contest.
- The members of each team will not be allowed to vote their own team's entries until the end of the contest. Negative votes must be justified, and in case of not doing so, these votes will not be taken into account when determining the score, and the member who performs such action will be disqualified.
- Maximum one main entry per participant.
- Drafts created prior to this announcement cannot be used.
- Minor spelling and grammar changes may be made after posting the articles. Major changes are prohibited (images, layout, entire paragraphs, addenda, etc.).
- And the most important thing: remember to have a good time writing and participating.
Winners
The winners of the team category will be decided by the total score, taking into account the total score of all the articles of each contestants, plus the bonuses in the case of the team category. There will be only one winning team. In the individual category there will also be only one winner, being the one who obtains the highest score in their article. The honorable mention will be awarded to the second highest rated article in both categories.1
Bonuses and Optional Collaborations
Additionally, teams have the opportunity to score more points by fulfilling the following bonuses:
Bonuses | Description | Points |
---|---|---|
Containment only | For the team whose three articles are only SCPs. | 3 |
Deep explorers | For the team whose three articles are only GoI Formats. | 4 |
Subterranean stories | For the team whose three articles are only tales. | 5 |
Three levels below ground | For the team that makes a GoI Format, a Tale and an SCP. | 5 |
As mentioned in the rules, this collaboration will not be taken into account for bonuses. For example: if a team makes 1 tale and 3 SCPs, one of which is the collaboration, they would not get the "containment only" bonus. The collaboration, besides being counted towards the voting score, will give 3 additional points if it is between two members of the team, and 5 points if it is between the three members of the team. In the discussion of the collaborative article, indicate the sections written by each member of the team.

Questions and Answers
1. Do the articles of the participants in the team category have to be narratively related?
Yes. It doesn't necessarily have to be a series, but they should have some kind of connection between each other, and not be unrelated to each other.
2. If for any reason a team dissolves, what happens?
Team members may still participate in the individual category.
3. What happens if only one team signs up?
Adjustments will be made to the hub and an individual-only contest will be held, but don't let that happen! Collaborations are the heart of the site.
4. Can I write articles that involve abyssal zones, underwater stuff, submarines?
No. Just underground stuff.
5. Can I approach the theme in a metaphorical or philosophical way? For example: underground economy, underground rock/culture.
No, it must be literally underground.
6. Can a contestant participate in both categories, with two different articles?
No.
If you have any other questions, you can post them in the discussion.
