The end of the world, anomalous phenomena affecting mankind’s existence, Groups of Interest jumping through dimensions.
The SCP Foundation continues its daily struggle against these imminent threats.

Yet amid all this, there’s also abnormalities that could be considered insignificant.
Creeping about, wriggling without anyone knowing.

Stories that perhaps slip off the framework of "Kwaidan".
These types of stories, we call them [依談/yidan]

Summary/Setting

Even the Foundation has limited resources for the purpose of researching and containing anomalous items.
For example, if there’s an SCP object which is a ‘Videotape that shows disturbing visual and auditory hallucinations’ which is safely contained, it’s quite unlikely that the Foundation would conduct a national-level qualitative research into its origin and history.
For example, if there was a post in a small mixi¹ community that said ‘I’m scared because an old man was screaming at it, まがっちゃった(twisting and bending)’, it’s quite unlikely that the Foundation would assume there to be a large-scale anomaly and attempt to contain it.

Yidan is an attempt to write these ‘small mysteries which the Foundation has difficulty getting involved with’ and turn them into scary stories.
As a result, anomalies described in yidan don’t involve Groups of Interest, nor any expectations of the future of the world, and at times not even containment by the Foundation. For works published on this hub, they must not require extensive background knowledge; what matters most is to make the reader feel ‘ominous’.

Writing Guide

Briefly, yidan is “JP’s version of Creepypasta, which allows you to write a piece meeting certain conditions, regardless of if it involves SCP articles or the Foundation’.

The common features of works under yidan are the following:

• The work is styled in the broader sense of ‘Kwaidan’ and ‘Japanese horror’, and evokes a sense of horror in the reader.

The definition of “broader sense of ‘Kwaidan’² and ‘Japanese horror’” is left to the author. It doesn’t need to be a Sharekowa³ based on indigenous customs, it can be a true Kwaidan, a mockumentary, a mountain horror, a house horror, a human horror, etc.

• The work doesn’t involve any particular GoI, PoI or other SCP concepts, and can be enjoyed independent from each other.

It’s allowed to write supplementary pieces for specific articles if it’s necessary for the complete description of something, but even then, it’s not recommended to explicitly show the connection through backlinks or similar means. An important part of yidan is that ‘the works can be enjoyed on their own’.

• The abnormalities described in yidan have little to no effect on the world and humanity at large

This means that articles which goal is ‘to show that there’s actually a grand plot behind the yidan’ are not part of yidan. Yidan deals with ‘something that're simply just there’.
