Item #: SCP-076
Object Class: Keter Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Containment Area 25b is to be located 200 m below sea level, tunneled out of solid bedrock in a seismologically stable area. Sole access to the containment facility is to be through a vertical elevator shaft separated every fifty (50) meters with a reinforced blast door, constructed of 20 cm thick material shielding. Elevator shaft shall be flooded with seawater when not in use.
Containment Area 25b is to be constructed with the following components:
- A Primary Containment Zone (PCZ), consisting of a 7 m cube encased in 1.5 m of reinforced material. PCZ is to be designed to be flooded and drained as needed, and should remain filled with seawater unless access to contents is required.
- A 150 m "killing corridor" which is to be the sole access to the PCZ from the ASA (including water, power, drainage, and ventilation lines). The walls and floor of the corridor are to be reinforced in a similar manner to the PCZ, with the addition of an electric deterrence system capable of delivering a 20,000 volt shock. Maintenance of the structure, with the exception of the flooding mechanism, is currently considered a low priority.
SCP-076-2 is to be contained in a standard humanoid containment cell at Site-17 and provided with sufficient and appropriate care support for daily living, including a cane to assist with ambulation. A minimum of two armed personnel are to be stationed at the entrance of the containment cell, and SCP-076-2 is to be fitted with a collar-type device that is intended to instantly sever the neck and incapacitate it when remotely activated or interfered with.
Unless deemed a security breach, the Research Lead and Site Director are authorized to accept recreational requests from SCP-076-2 at their discretion in order to maintain its mental health.
Description: SCP-076 consists of two components: a stone cube (SCP-076-1) and a humanoid entity formerly contained within (SCP-076-2).
SCP-076-1 is a 3 m cube made of black speckled metamorphic stone. All surfaces outside and within SCP-076-1 are covered in deeply engraved patterns corresponding to no known civilizations. Radioisotope analysis indicates that the object is approximately ten thousand (10,000) years old. A door is located on one side, sealed with a lock 0.5 m in width, surrounded by twenty (20) smaller locks in a circular pattern. As of yet, none of the keys have been found, making the door impossible to lock once closed.
Interior temperature is approximately 93 Kelvin, and cannot be altered by any means, internal or external. Directly in the center of the room is a 2.13 m tall stone coffin, held in place and sealed shut by several chains of unknown make and substance, which are attached to the inner corners of SCP-076-1.
SCP-076-2 resembles a lean Semitic human male in his late twenties. Hair is black, and eyes are gray, skin tone olive. Subject is 1.96 m in height and 81.65 kg in weight. Numerous tattoos depicting arcane and occult iconography are present all over the body (mostly in the form of leering demonic faces) and ranges from subtle to openly ostentatious.
SCP-076-2 used to have superhuman strength and speed, and although not invulnerable, had shown a remarkable ability to ignore pain and shock, pressing on despite what would be debilitating wounds in normal humans. Prior encounters have shown that SCP-076-2 once had the ability to (among other things):
- Rip through a reinforced steel security door over the course of four minutes of sustained assault.
- Clear over 64 m of distance in under three seconds.
- Take multiple .50 caliber BMG rounds to the head and survive for several minutes to continue killing, despite severe damage to the cerebellum.
- Swat handgun and assault-rifle caliber bullets out of the air with a length of steel rebar.
- Survive for over one hour deprived of oxygen before finally asphyxiating.
- SCP-076-2's most unusual ability is its ability to apparently materialize bladed weapons out of nowhere. Slow-motion video footage reveals that the blades in question are actually pulled from a miniature dimensional rift described as a "small hole in space." Where this portal leads is unknown, as is how SCP-076-2 is capable of generating said rifts. Footage of the blades in question shows them to be made out of a completely non-reflective black material appearing as a "black void in space." As the blades rapidly vanish after leaving the subject's possession, no structural analysis is possible at this time.
- Upon death, SCP-076-2's remains will putrefy rapidly, until reduced to dust. SCP-076-1 and the coffin within will then slam shut with great force, and the lock will rotate, sealing it shut. SCP-076-2 will then reform within the coffin, a process taking anywhere from six hours to twenty-five years.
These abnormal abilities (enhanced motor function, material generation, and physical regeneration) are now considered to be severely limited or nearly impossible to perform due to the permanent brain dysfunction that SCP-076-2 has suffered since Incident Report K39867S7W, described below.
In the past, SCP-076-2 was known for its characteristic behavior of entering a rage state upon contact with living humans and using the aforementioned abilities to engage and kill all humans encountered until its own death. These characteristics have not been observed to manifest since the onset of ΩK.
Addendum 076.2020.1: Incident Report K39867S7W
On September 12, 2020, SCP-076-2 breached its containment. As all armed personnel stationed in Area 25b, where SCP-076 was contained at the time, were overpowered by SCP-076-2, Level 4 personnel on site decided to flood the entire containment area with seawater as a final fail-safe measure in accordance with the established procedures.1
When the lockdown of Area 25b was lifted twenty-four hours later to restore the facility's functionality, the expedition team found SCP-076-2 submerged in the water inside the access shaft. Despite the apparent drowned condition of SCP-076-2's physical body at the time of discovery, it did not show unusual putrefaction, as had been observed in the past when it died.
Judging this to be an irregular situation, the team secured SCP-076-2 under strict restraints and transferred it to the autopsy lab. The results revealed that SCP-076-2 was in a medically and biologically inconsistent state, where its body experienced severe functional impairment due to cardiopulmonary arrest, while its brain activity continued to maintain consciousness.2
The medical crew in charge requested permission to provide treatment to SCP-076-2 for the purpose of saving and prolonging its life, based on the principle of protecting the anomaly. After approximately twenty minutes of discussion on the unprecedented case, the request was approved.
Addendum 076.2020.2
Following recovery of cardiopulmonary function through treatment, SCP-076-2 has been under the Foundation's protection without showing any intent to resist. It currently suffers from extensive brain dysfunction, presumably due to prolonged oxygen deprivation as a result of the drowning, and has been observed to have multiple symptoms including:
- Mild paralysis of the lower body
- Motor coordination deficits - unsteadiness when walking, tremors in limbs
- Clouded recollection - lack of episodic memory, especially for the long term past
- Loss or attenuation of the ability to solve procedures involving multiple handling processes (e.g., complex board games)
- Decreased reflex movement capacity
- Acquired neurogenic stuttering - non-fluent speech and silent blocks (requires intervals to produce words)
Formerly, SCP-076-2 was able to actively escape from under the negative effects of these severe injuries through its anomalous property of resurrecting from SCP-076-1 in a healthy state after death by deliberately inflicting lethal wounds to itself. However, SCP-076-2 is now considered to possess no active means of recovering from these symptoms as the onset of the ΩK event has rendered biological death of all organisms impossible3.
Another notable change in SCP-076-2 is the superficial loss of aggression toward human beings that had been observed in the past. This does not appear to have any significant connection to the fact that its ability to kill humans was greatly reduced by the brain dysfunction described above. The following is a transcript of an interview with SCP-076-2.
Date: 2020/09/20
Interviewer: Dr. Angela Langley, psychoanalyst
Interviewee: SCP-076-2
Foreword: SCP-076-2 had raised itself from its assigned nursing bed and was facing Langley. Although SCP-076-2 was calm and cooperative during the interview, it exhibited a trance-like lethargy, which has been continuously observed since recovery, and often took a long time to respond to questions.
[BEGIN LOG]
Langley: Hello, 076, how are you feeling?
SCP-076-2: [A few seconds of silence] Well, not bad. To rest on [A few seconds of silence] a clean sheet of cloth, like this.
Langley: If you don't mind, I would like to ask you a few questions. Is that all right with you?
SCP-076-2: [A few seconds of silence] As long as, I can answer them.
Langley: After that… accident, you obviously changed. It's not just your physical body, but also your inner self, your mind. Are you aware of that?
SCP-076-2: Yes. [A few seconds of silence] How do I, look different?
Langley: Well, you seem a lot calmer and… less violent than you used to be. Do you have any idea why?
SCP-076-2: The thing, that used to, impel me, has gone away.
Langley: What is it?
SCP-076-2: [A few seconds of silence] The desire, the urge to slaughter. There is no pressing need, to kill someone, anymore. The bloody breezes, once through my nostrils, are now, clear and fresh. I am at rest now.
Langley: Why is that gone?
SCP-076-2: Because, it is now, pointless.
Langley: Pointless?
SCP-076-2: Yes, pointless. There is no one left, for me to kill. I am no longer, a slave to my impulses.
[After a few dozen seconds of silence, SCP-076-2 smiles slightly]
SCP-076-2: I am free, now.
[From this point on, SCP-076-2 offers no definitive response to questions]
Addendum 076.2022.3
Since it has been determined that SCP-076-2 no longer poses a significant threat to the Foundation's containment system and human life, and clearly lacks the ability and will to accomplish such a goal, its object class has been reclassified as Safe. Unless SCP-076-2 "dies" in some manner or undergoes a dramatic improvement in symptoms, this view is expected to be

Angela Langley stopped typing and let out a small sigh. There is no doubt that ΩK induced a mental change in SCP-076-2. But what of its nature caused the change?
In the seemingly long time past, when Omega-7 ("Pandora's Box") was still in service, SCP-076-2 and Angela made contact with each other. Only once. But that one time was violent and overly impressive. He turned a section of the site into a mixed pool of torn steel and guts right in front of Angela's eyes, simply because he was irritated by the Foundation's tedious procedures.
Despite all the seals and restrictions the Foundation had implemented to suppress his desire to slaughter, everything from operant conditioning with a collar bomb, through lobotomies, to ancient arcane rituals, it still happened. A frenzy in human form. A primal and unpredictable terror. A roar of rage uncontrollable by human knowledge. The Foundation ultimately chose to confine SCP-076-2 to the bottom of the ocean, for it could not tame him any more than his own impulses would allow.
Mere brain dysfunction alone is not enough to explain his calmness.
Angela thinks back to the interview again and underlines one word from SCP-076-2 in her mind.
"Pointless."
For a long time since his containment, SCP-076-2's interest was directed toward carnage. Now that humans no longer die, it could be said that his goal has been permanently rendered unachievable. Did he mean it by "pointless"?
Or…
.
However, occasionally SCP-076-2 will awaken, effectively "reanimating", complete with all vital processes needed to sustain a living human being. Subject will then attempt to leave SCP-076-1. If successful, subject will enter a trance state and seek out the nearest human being, ignoring all other living things in the process. Upon coming into contact with living humans, SCP-076-2 will enter a rage state in which it attempts to engage and kill all human beings encountered.
.
Have we, trapped in eternal life, been freed from the frame of being human?
