SCP-2770-JP
Item #: SCP-2770-JP
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-2770-JP is contained at Site-81██. Personnel assigned to SCP-2770-JP are to breed SCP-2770-JP instances once per year through the use of D-class personnel in order to maintain the population. Any confirmed wild SCP-2770-JP instances must be promptly exterminated by assigned personnel. Projects aimed at eradicating wild SCP-2770-JP instances are currently ongoing in cooperation with various authorities.
Description: SCP-2770-JP is a species of insect belonging to the family Aphididae with aspects of a human parasite. An imago of SCP-2770-JP closely resembles a snow bug (Prociphilus oriens) in appearance, and many DNA structural similarities have been observed; however, its ecology and life cycle are significantly different.
Compared to other insects of the similar species, SCP-2770-JP is highly tolerant of temperature and moisture, and experiments have confirmed that it can maintain its activity in temperatures ranging from -30°C to 50°C. Once mature, SCP-2770-JP is able to produce a large amount of waxy substance from its abdominal glands. This waxy substance, mostly white but can also be various shades of yellow, is used by SCP-2770-JP to cover its entire body, facilitating its parasitic activities.
The SCP-2770-JP imagos attempt to enter the human body by using the aforementioned waxy substance to mimic the surface of food products. This activity is known to cause headaches in the host without exception, although to date the cause of this has not been determined.1 Once an SCP-2770-JP imago enters the body, it begins to lay eggs in the host's oropharynx. The number of eggs laid at one time is approximately five hundred, and the imago dies after laying its eggs. This parasitic behavior occurs mainly in July and August.
The eggs hatch in approximately one week. The SCP-2770-JP larvae constantly secrete a substance analogous to benzodiazepine, which greatly improves the host's quality of sleep. This secretion is believed to facilitate the predatory behavior described below. To date, no cases of this substance causing health problems have been reported.
While the larvae normally ingest waste products in the vicinity of the pharynx, they travel to the oral cavity while the host is asleep. Upon arrival in the oral cavity, the larvae ingest surrounding oral wastes2, soak them in a solution containing alkylamines and ██████ produced within their own bodies, and then spit them out.
Due to the solution's composition, which is remarkably similar to the aggregation pheromone secreted by the German cockroach (Blattella germanica), the regurgitated materials strongly attract cockroaches into the host's mouth, where the larvae attack and prey on the lured German cockroaches in groups. These actions do not occur when other humans are around the host, indicating that the larvae are aware of their surroundings through unknown means. In most cases, the host does not awaken when the predatory behavior takes place, as they are in a state of deep sleep induced by the aforementioned secretion.
The SCP-2770-JP larvae pupate in the host's pharynx in mid-October and emerge around early May. In all confirmed cases, emergence occurs during the host's sleep. Following emergence, the SCP-2770-JP imagos exit the host's body through their nostrils and mouth.
Addendum: When an SCP-2770-JP imago successfully enters a human body, it releases a pheromone only perceivable by its own species. This pheromone is believed to result from a type of territoriality, preventing multiple SCP-2770-JP instances from parasitizing the same host. The pheromone is composed of previously unidentified substances and acts similar to a vasodilator with an immediate effect on the human body by unknown means; it causes the host's cerebral blood vessels to dilate and stimulates the trigeminal nerve, thus causing headaches in the host.
Update: Research has determined that in parasitizing humans, SCP-2770-JP imagos preferentially mimic the surface of shaved ice or ice cream through the use of the waxy substance.
