Where am I…?
- Your head hurts.
- You feel like you have just fallen off somewhere far, far up high.
- …… …… ……
- Anyway, what is this place?
- You got up and looked around. It appears to be a Foundation facility, but you don't recognize it.

- You investigated the room.
- Wait! You took a closer look and saw that something had fallen under the desk!
- You picked it up and found that it is apparently a Foundation document.

Aside from what is written there, I was also interested in the fact that the back of the document is pitch black. Odd, since I couldn't see it through the white front side.
As if each side of the paper is covered with a different texture…
- Comparing both sides, you were puzzled. What does this mean?
And what the hell is this message window? Will you stop arbitrarily representing my mind?
- For now, you decided to step outside the room.

A document that details a Nexus.
What is a Nexus? Never heard of it…
… No, actually I know. A Nexus is an area that hosts high levels of unusual activity. Some places are more prone to generate anomalies, other places are anomalous themselves, and so on.
I'm an agent of the Department of Nexus Research, it's only natural that I know such rudimentary things. It should be so.
Nx-58 - Yumegame
Nexus #: Nx-58
Civilian Designation: Yumegame (夢瓶ゆめがめ) or "Yumegēmu", Tokushima, Japan
Population: 5,724
Area Class: Shangri-La Dunwich
Nexus Interaction Protocol: Discovery of and intrusion into Nx-58 by outside civilians is considered unlikely to occur due to its anomalous self-concealing nature. The minimum necessary concealment measures (online monitoring of mentions, geographic cordon around Nx-58) have been maintained for contingencies. The mountains and forests around Nx-58 are disguised as undeveloped government-owned land.
Residents of Nx-58 are aware of and affected by its anomalous properties. As such, the standard Veil Policy does not apply to them. Within Nx-58, the Foundation is known only as an organization that investigates paranormal activities occurring in the town, with most residents being cooperative with the Foundation. All residents are considered the equivalent status of Foundation E-Class personnel; the stationed staff is authorized to ask them to perform safe duties within the Nexus, and to pay them appropriately for doing so.
Activities to reintegrate Nx-58 into the baseline reality should be pursued through a coordinated effort between the Foundation Site-81TG and Nexus residents.
Containment Facility: Site-81TG (former Site-79)
Description: Nx-58 is an anomalous urban area located in the inland basin of Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. The actual extent and boundaries of Nx-58 are not clear, as the fluid expansion and contraction of the area makes accurate surveying impractical. Due to the nomenclative alteration and reality reconstruction that occurred on 2004/5/5, all information regarding this urban area and its topography has been lost from the baseline reality and is generally considered to be a mountainous forested area containing no inhabited land.
Nx-58 was once known as the "夢瓶" region of Tokushima. Prior to 2004/5/5, this placename had a different phonetic reading than the one in use today1; currently, however, only the reading and pronunciation "Yumegame" (ゆめがめ) is available in both spoken and written form.
The reality inside the Nx-58 area is reconstructed through the simplification or exaggeration of certain aspects of it, and based on various game modalities.2 Examples include objects of unknown material that outwardly resemble computer graphics, rooms that are spontaneously added to buildings for the purpose of performing specific games, and probabilistic and causal anomalous effects that follow the narrative tropes typical of adventure or role-playing games.
Nx-58 has been observed to possess selective self-concealing properties. Access to Nx-58 requires awareness of the aforementioned reality reconstruction event3; attempts to enter the area by individuals lacking this requirement are effectively inhibited by a combination of minor antimemetic effects, anomalous topographic changes, and an unnatural frequency of unfortunate event.4
All individuals who successfully enter within Nx-58 (including original residents) receive an assigned "game completion condition" that differs for each individual. Since this condition is not directly informed, it must be guessed based on general daily life within the Nexus and clues provided through the games. Each person is unable to leave Nx-58 until they fulfill the condition assigned to them. If such an individual attempts to cross the area boundary, they experience the sensation of being obstructed by an invisible wall.
Groups as well as individuals can be targeted for assignment of a game completion condition.5 Each member of such a group must meet both their own condition and the condition for the group in order to leave Nx-58. Due to the fact that "Yumegame residents" are currently subject to the condition assignment and have yet to meet the completion condition, the original residents of Nx-58 remain trapped within the area.
Nx-58… a gamified anomalous town. Given the situation, this facility must be Site-81TG. But why didn't I know about this place? Why am I here? Is there any other clue…?
- You can't seem to find any other items…
- You decided to continue down the hallway for some new information.
… All right, buster. I have to keep going, I guess.
LOADING…
- TIPS: Every game exists to be completed.
STAGE 2
- Proceeding down the hallway, you reached an office with a row of desks.
If this is a game, no doubt this kind of place holds some clues. Let's look for them.

A continuation of the Facility Dossier.
Time for a history lesson here.
Facility History
DEEPWELL Archives located at Site-81KK.
The Foundation first discovered Nx-58 the day after the reality reconstruction event that led to its creation. During a comparison of the differences between the current timeline and the records of Site-81KK's spatio-temporally and causally isolated "DEEPWELL" data storage, a significant discrepancy in geographic information was detected and an investigation was immediately initiated.
When the first expedition team reported that they were unable to exit the area, the Foundation established a small Temporary Site-79, which was intended to monitor and conceal the Nexus, as well as provide external support for the expedition team's attempts to escape.
Due to concerns about the risk of personnel loss associated with intrusion within Nx-58, further field research was postponed indefinitely. Meanwhile, information about the reality reconstruction event was classified, which resulted in Nx-58 being largely unknown to the Foundation facilities outside of Site-79 and not attracting much attention.
This changed in 2009, five years after the investigation was initiated, when the first expedition team successfully escaped from the area by fulfilling their "completion condition". Once the possibility of return was actually demonstrated, additional research was re-planned and a second expedition team was dispatched. As the original population was still stranded in the nexus, the second expedition's mission included assisting in their escape as much as possible.
With the knowledge and operational base established by the first expedition, the second expedition team succeeded in escaping in approximately three years and two months. Their report recommended the establishment of a Foundation facility inside the Nexus to assist the escape of the residents and to further promote the study of it.
In 2012, under the initiative of the Site-79 Department of Gaming and the Site-81CH Department of Nexus Research, Site-79 was developmentally restructured into Site-81TG. In order to broadly recruit facility personnel, Nx-58-related information was partially declassified; the validity of categorization was also reviewed during this process, which led to its reclassification from the former Shangri-La class to Dunwich class.
Site-81TG currently consists of two facilities: one outside the Nexus (Alpha Facility), which is a diversion of the former Site-79 infrastructure, and one inside the Nexus (Beta Facility), which is derived from a base established by previous expedition teams. Due to the anomalous nature of Nx-58, operations that do not need to be performed within the Nexus are handled at the Alpha Facility, while the Beta Facility is staffed only by a handful of experts dedicated to dealing with anomalous areas.
"Site-81CH Department of Nexus Research"… the department I'm in.
Things are getting even more confusing. Why don't I remember what I'm supposed to know? Could it be that something happened and I was administered amnestics?
- You desperately tried to gather information.
- You proceeded to open desk drawers at random.
You Obtained: Insurance Memorandum
A memo from Goldbaker-Reinz.
You can never be too prepared, right?
Memo: Transactions at Yumegame, Tokushima
I. Limitations on Available Currency
In the basic contract plan, Goldbaker-Reinz Insurance Group Ltd. allows clients to select the currency to be used in monetary transactions between our firm and them at their discretion from among the legal currencies specified by us, based on their preferences.
There are several exceptions to this clause, one of which applies to the town of Yumegame, Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. In view of the fact that it is impossible to use common currencies due to the inevitable anomalous effects in the area, the only currency that can be used is YumeCoin.
The exchange rate between Japanese yen or U.S. dollars and YumeCoin is displayed on the bulletin board in the town and will be updated in real time.
II. Provision of Area-Specific Services
Insured clients residing in Yumegame have access to the basic policy package, as well as coverage for area-specific anomalous effects.
In the life insurance policies we offer, the policyholder cannot normally be the beneficiary of the compensation. However, our "Bad End Insurance" offered in limited regions provides a small amount of compensation to the policyholder themselves when they are revived after a Game Over event (effectively death).
This payment is made immediately to allow the Insured to promptly recover after respawning.
Goldbaker-Reinz Insurance Group Ltd.
If there was an insurance policy that would allow someone in such a shitty situation to buy it, I'd love to have it… but this one doesn't seem to be helping. In any case, I'll just have to keep trying until I hit the jackpot.

This is not going to do any good either… I'll put it in my pocket, just in case.
You Obtained: Mysterious Document D
A document with a facility map.
Should be looked over when you get lost.
Facility Layout
The Beta Facility is divided into five sections by function. See the map below for a rough layout. As the details of the building are continually being altered, any further effort to create a more detailed map is considered almost pointless.
Site-81TG Beta Facility.
The Research Area is primarily used for testing to determine the nature of anomalous objects and is equipped with basic experimental equipment ranging from the common to the para-scientific. Also of note as a unique feature of this site is the extensive archive of video games and a well-organized gameplay environment. These are intended for comparative research with the anomalous phenomena occurring at Nx-58, although the staff is allowed to access them outside of work hours for recreational purposes.
The Containment Area, as the name implies, is used to contain anomalous objects. Since most of the anomalies originating from Nx-58 manifest their properties when used or worn6, most of the containment installations are intended for low-hazard objects. In addition, several small animal holding units and humanoid object containment cells have been established. Outdoor units are used to contain larger creatures.
The Residential Area provides housing accommodations for the facility personnel. Each personnel is assigned a private room, and shared spaces such as the cafeteria and lounge are also located in this area. These shared spaces help to promote interaction among personnel and maintain the unity that is important in such an isolated environment.
The Public Relations Area is used for tasks involving non-Foundation personnel and is relatively low-security. It includes an information desk for local residents, a simple conference room for negotiations and interviews, and also serves to publicize the results of the Foundation's Nexus research.
The Functional Area compactly contains the key functions of the facility's operation, including the medical office, communications control room, conference room, archives and emergency shelter. To date, this is statistically the most stable area in the facility.
A staircase to a "basement" that should not exist.
Personnel assigned to the Beta Facility are expected to check the latest facility layout upon arrival at work each shift. Any new additional doors, corridors, or rooms observed in the facility must be reported to the Site Command before an investigation takes place. These additions are usually intended for use in specific games, and attempts to gain access will often trigger forced participation into them.
If you believe you have unintentionally entered such a space, attempt to communicate with the outside area. In the event that this is not possible, your first priority should be to clear the game.
Almost certainly I've "unintentionally entered such a space," and there's no transmitter.
OK, top priority is set.

Do you like games? I'm sure most people do. Then how about a chess game where only the opponent has the right to move pieces? Or a fighting game where you have to deal with three different opponents at the same time with no advantage? I don't even need to hear your answer to predict that it would be one of the most disappointing experiences of your gaming life.
What ensures the entertainment of games is a structure called rules. They direct the game and define the players' roles. The rules interact with the story to create a micro-world. But when they are somehow corrupted, the worst possible game experience emerges, as I mentioned earlier.
We at the Department of Gaming don't only address individual anomalous games. Semiotics and structuralism are also great weapons here. Especially when you live in a town where games have become reality (or reality has become games), you realize how important it is to see the structure behind the gameplay.
These things may seem daunting, but I'm sure they're easier to grasp than you think. Do you know Magic: the Gathering? Come talk to me in the lounge and I'll try to explain it to you through an actual game. … It's not that I just want to play, mind you.

I was transferred from Site-81CH just a few days ago, because I won an onsite video game tournament. Perhaps they organized it to select a personnel to be sent here. I was told that my basic duties are to work with senior staff and residents to engage in a variety of games.
I've been assigned to Nexuses several times, but here at Nx-58, I've found that the relationship between residents and anomalous beings was markedly closer than in other places. It would not be an exaggeration to say that almost every aspect of life here incorporates anomalies.
I was once stationed at the Chūgoku Cellar, so I have at least a minimal understanding of the Veil-free environment. It may take some getting used to the uniqueness of Yumegame, but I'll do my best. Thank you in advance.
… It describes me.
As I thought, my memory seems to have been wiped out. Why? Does it have anything to do with this "game"?
I'm still in the dark for now, but there is a feeling that I will discover the truth once I complete the game. In any case, the only thing I can do now is to keep moving forward.

You Obtained: Mysterious Document E
It details a kind of humanoid anomaly.
They give off a fairly cuttle-fishy vibe.
AE-58-1
Eye of an AE-58-1 instance, with iris features similar to those of a cuttlefish.
Nx-58 is known to contain a number of unique and anomalous humanoid entities, which are collectively designated AE-58-1.
Although they outwardly disguise themselves as human individuals with phenotypes varying between them, all AE-58-1 instances are genetically identical and completely different from humans. They also have physical features that partially resemble those of common cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis), such as the appearance of the eyes and the two tentacle-like organs extending from the nape of the neck.
AE-58-1 provides most of the administrative and commercial services7 within Nx-58. In addition, AE-58-1 serves as non-player characters (including facilitators and gamekeepers) in games and challenges that occur within the Nexus when such roles are required.
AE-58-1 is capable of verbal communication through speech and writing, albeit it is unclear whether they possess advanced intelligence. Previous observations have confirmed only limited human interface responses based on the role of each instance.
During one interaction with an AE-58-1 instance, a question about the origin and function of Nx-58 was asked, which reportedly elicited a hostile response from the entity. When questioned, the AE-58-1 instance at first mechanically repeated the message of refusal to answer. When the same question was repeatedly asked, it released a large amount of dark brown liquid and then attempted to flee, exhibiting an agility that had not been previously observed.
Humans who come into direct contact with this produced liquid are known to experience anomalous "restricted vision". Recovery from this condition requires therapeutic items that can be recovered within Nx-58.
I don't have any therapeutic items. It may be dangerous to ask intrusive questions.
But since she appeared as an NPC in the game, there must be a role for her.

It details YumeCoin.
Coins that never make a sound, not even when you jump.
YumeCoin
A YumeCoin.
When completing any game or challenge within Nx-58, one or more coins consisting of unknown material appear. These coins, known as "YumeCoin," are the currency available in the commercial services offered by AE-58-1 and vending machines.
Since they are used to purchase daily necessities, these coins also serve as a yardstick of exchange value within the Nexus and are sometimes used to trade items between residents.
When other currencies are brought into Nx-58 from outside, they are converted into a number of YumeCoins of presumably equivalent value. YumeCoins of unknown origin can also be found in various locations in the town. These coins are presumed to spontaneously appear and are often hidden in places that are difficult to spot.
YumeCoins in human possession are usually dematerialized and reappear when they are used in exchange. While dematerialized, the coins are believed to exist only as a concept of ownership, and each individual can always recall exactly how many coins they own.
Most likely, she is trying to tell me that she is ready to make a deal using the coins.
And also, it is easy to read the unspoken implications from the fact that a squid person, who is supposed to be able to speak, is sending messages through documents.

Nx-58 - "Yumegēmu"
Every event within Nx-58 is tied to some game/challenge or potentially can be. The majority of these are one-time, simple, and often puzzles or quizzes. Examples include a crossword puzzle to fix a car engine failure, or a four-option quiz where answering correctly opens a locked door.
The rest of the games are tied to land, buildings, or events, and each has a distinct thematic and unique title associated with them. Examples include "Ghost Bulb Puzzle" in the "Power Plant" and "Plumbing Pipe Nightmare" in the "Waterworks Bureau."8 Such games tend to be relatively complex and large-scale.
Any activity inside Nx-58 involves addressing these games. Therefore, the Site-81TG personnel are expected to have a basic knowledge of common video games, card games, and board games.
Often the rewards for completing a game or items acquired during a game play are also available in another game. In a few rare cases, items derived from one game may be required to complete a different one. It is hypothesized that each game is loosely interlinked and that their essential boundaries are blurred.
The Foundation Department of Gaming has speculated that the individual games hosted within Nx-58 are components of a larger, single game structure. The title of this larger game is believed to be "Yumegēmu"9, based on the Japanese text strings often presented within the Nexus.
It is unclear if any game clear conditions exist for "Yumegēmu." The Foundation's current course of action regarding this matter is to complete and analyze the individual games that comprise it.

Epilogue
"Um, thank you so much for rescuing me," I bowed deeply to Saito, my senior agent.
"Don't worry about it. Helping my colleagues is part of my duty as a Foundation agent."
"But how did you know that I was repeatedly dying?"
"I think you should ask him about that," Agent Saito pointed to Researcher Imashige, who seemed to be waiting for us in the lounge. Next to him were Researchers Nishizono and Ōki.
"Why, I'm sorry for your misfortune. When the penalty for failure in a game based on trial and error is memory loss, it's nothing more than a dead end. You got caught up in a really awful game very early on in your career," Imashige said, and the other three seniors all gestured in agreement.
"Is that unusual?"
"I honestly suspect some kind of malicious intent," said Nishizono.
"Yeah, we don't usually run into games that are this screwed up. To be honest, I really didn't expect such a thing to happen," Imashige laughed lightly.
"Then how did you —"
"We don't need to identify how you die," Nishizono interjected. "As long as we can detect the fact that you keep dying within a short period of time, anyone can notice that it is obviously abnormal."
"Indeed. We use the Bad End Insurance to make this death sensor work."
"If I recall correctly, the payment is supposed to be made immediately upon a game over… Oh, you're monitoring its history or something?"
"Excellent!"
"Thanks to the bizarre systems in this town, we're able to use these tricks," Imashige said as he glanced over at the other three. 'But what really saved your life today wasn't a trick."
"Those two ladies were also desperately trying to locate you from the moment they found out the newcomer was in trouble," Agent Saito added.
Ōki cleared her throat and began to speak. "Teamwork is always important at any Foundation site, but here, with our particularly small team size, you can't win any games you might otherwise win if you abandon cooperative play," Nishizono nodded in agreement.
Imashige opened his mouth as if representing the four seniors. "So let me say this again. Welcome to Site-81TG!"
